Leg/Feet Spasms?

Is anyone bothered by severe leg and foot spasms during the night?  I get woke up out of a sound sleep with the pain.  Had labs done and now take meds for iron deficiency anemia and the dr thought that would help, but it's not.  Just seems strange to me that it only happens at night and sometimes in the evening as I am going to bed.  At first it was just my feet, last night was feet and up my legs.

Probably nothing but thought I would ask if anyone else had this happen and what you do about it.

Thanks
Julie

Julie,

I read somewhere (complication board maybe) about several having restless leg syndrome (RLS) post-op. You might want to try googling it & see what you come up with. That way, you'd know a little more when you talk with your doc about it.

Thanks Sherri,

I'm sure it's probably nothing serious.  My PCP thought maybe the meds would take care of it but obviously it hasn't.  I'll check out restless leg syndrome.  I do notice at times that I just can't get comfortable with my legs.

I had severe resless leg syndrome several months after my surgery.  I had it like every night for a couple weeks or so. Then it just stopped.  It is very annoying!  What helped me was to just get up and walk and rub my legs with lotion and kind of get the circulation moving.  You might try that.

Thanks Jenny.  I do have to get up and walk and rub some icy hot or that blue stuff on them to ease the pain.  I don't know if it's the heat or just the rubbing that soothes them.  If this had happened close to surgery I would think maybe that had something to do with it but my surgery was three years ago this month.

Oh I didnt know when your surgery was.  If it continues, I would definetly talk to your doc.  There is medicine for RLS.

Julie,
I take meds. for RLS. It does help tremendously! I had the same issues plus problems with long drives- couldn't sit still, legs screaming! Talk to you PCP about it- I will pm. you the name of what I take.RLS is a disease they can treat, and you sleep so much better once you have the diagnosis & treatment. Good luck, my Oct. surgery buddy,
Ellen

Thanks Ellen.  I think I will make an appointment and talk to my PCP about it.  Can't hurt.

I think someone has a birthday coming up, like tomorrow?  We not only share the same surgery month but also birth month.  Mine was Monday.
