A little bummed
So, we finally made the journey to Cinci this weekend to visit his family. I have not been down there since April so they had not seen me since the surgery. I am 80 lbs down and feel great. They all told me how great I look and all seemed well. Then when it was time to eat it all went south!
They had gone to Krogers to get food for the weekend for us. I had no idea they made a special trip for groceries. I would have given them so ideas of foods I can eat. At any rate, they bought all the wrong things. I couldn't have any of the junk they bought. So, I graciously offered to go to the store and get some salad and some other items I could eat. No big deal right? WRONG. They were upset that I wouldn't eat the food they bought. The list consisted of the following:
poptarts, chips, bologna, pop, donuts, hotdogs, ice cream, and various little debbie snacks.
I was just blown away at the fact that I really have changed my eating habits so much. It's great but wow did it cause some tension with the inlaws.
My husband even made a comment about how much junk food they eat. It just bummed me out that they were so upset because I refused the food and pop. Guess it's just another issue to deal with that I never really considered.
I have to say, I am very proud of my DH for recognizing my needs and trying to stick up for me.

Hi Gal,
I do understand what you are saying. Been there & done that
- only now I take what I need to make sure I am ok! It is all about taking care of our needs.I take cottage cheese, jello, pudding, fruit, salad mix, tuna in can,turkey/chicken, protien mix/bars,(soy, for me) milk- whatever I need.
Horray for your Hubby!!!!
it is so helpful to have a support person, & better yet- your mate!
I had my surgery 5 days before my birthday & then came Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, NewYear- parties galore! I just don't think our family knows how to deal with our new lifestyle after seeing us eat like they do for yrs
.Don't know about you, but I could really pack in the food- & they knew all of my favorites! So try to educate them as you learn yourself.
You CAN DO IT!!!
You are looking/doing great!

Tracy,
i'm sure you've heard the saying 'ignorance is bliss'. As long as they could remain ignorant about how poor their food choices were, they were blissfully happy. You brought it to light that they weren't the choice you have to make for yourself. They may not appreciate it now but you never know. A month or two down the road, you just may learn where one of them decided to try to start eating healthier because of the terrific example you were. Change is hard..especially when we have no control over it. They had no control over your changes. But....regardless of who makes the changes, as long as they are consistent, people normally adapt and are fine with them. Don't worry about the in-laws. Their feathers may have been ruffled but I'm sure they won't be for long.
Your hubby deserves a big
! Not all spouses would had stoff up the way he did!
Congrats! When I lost 80 lbs...MY mother said 'well, I can't tell it'. Jeesh!

Thanks for your encouragement and kind words. Marc has been very good to me thru the whole process. I am just surprised when a new situation comes up that makes me realize that not everyone is accepting of my decision and my life change. I am so glad that I have the support here to make up for the lack of support sometimes offered by co-workers or family and friends.
Hope you all have a great week.
