Question about plastics
Hello all!!!!
It is getting close to open season time with insurance at my job and I was wondering if any of you who have had plastics or already have a approval.... who was/is your insurance carrier. I do have some medical things that could help with the approval, but I was just wondering who you all had. I am going to try and get my insurance to approve it, if at all possible. So any help would be great.
Thank you all in advance for your help.

I just had a tummy tuck a week ago and I did not get insurance to cover it. When I checked with my insurance, Anthem, the criteria for coverage was pretty tough. First of all, the pannus (stomach roll) has to hang below your pubic bone. It also required you to have proof of "difficult to treat rashes". So that would mean I needed proof of multiple visits to the doctor for rashes that were not easily treated. These were criteria I was not able to meet. There was more but, I couldn't even meet the basic criteria so I can't remember what they were!
Also, you will find that there are some plastic surgeons who are interested in working with insurance and those who are not. I can see both sides to that for them. But, that will be an important question for you to ask when you make appointments for consults if you want to pursue insurance coverage. The first thing you should probably do is just call your insurance company and see what the criteria for coverage is.
Good Luck,
Jennifer

Leigh Ann,
The contract that an insurance company makes with a business for their employees can differ from business to business (depending on what the business is willing to have in it..that goes for WLS as well as plastics). I have Anthem and they not only paid for my plastic consult but for the tummy tuck portion as well (I had a full abdoplasty & thigh lift done). I had only went to a doctor one time for tummy rash.
I really do think that the biggie is the plastic surgeon. I had consulted with Turkle's and they were not willing to work with the insurance at all. Dr. Bergman's office was more than happy to. It saved me some big $$ (not to mention, her price was alot lower than Turkle's too!).
