finally had a first date!
By then I was home again, and she wanted to know what kind of guy I was looking for. I told her some of the basics and she said that she knew of someone. This man is much older than I, in his early 70's and I am 56. He called on Friday night, and I was already down for the count by 9:00, it was a long week at school, and Micah told him I was not available. He said he would call by 5:00 on Sat. He called about 5:15 apologizing greatly ! He had to work longer than expected. He called and we talked for about 45 minutes. We had a great conversation! He asked me out for dinner on Sun night at a local restaurant. All was well, I had no gas!
So now he has called for date #2. He would like to do dinner and a movie. Ok, what can you eat safely at Cracker Barrel? He picked the place and I am supposed ro pick the movie. The subject of barriartric surgery did come up. He had a daughter who had surgery in the past, I am not sure what kind she had or who did it, but she must have had a problem. He said she could hardly eat anything and "wasted away to nothing." He said he begged her to eat and she kept reassuring her that she was but that after a few bites she was full. About a year after her surgery she died of a heart attack. I figured since I could see how angry he was toward WLS I'd better get that out on the table now, so I told him. He was shocked and said that he was shocked since he had seen me eat.(Part of a very tender chicken breast, part of a baked potatoe, and a few forkfuls of corn - didn't eat all but looked pretty normal). I told him that it varies what I can eat and the amount varies and that sometimes when things don't agree I need to find the ladies room pretty quickly. (He doesn't need to know yet that the gas is a biohazard).
He is a real gentleman. Pulled out my chair, opened doors for me, and helped me with my coat. I felt really pampered. We live in a small community and I have been checking him out with people who know him. He is very well liked and very well respected. I feel blessed. We will see what happens. Karen
Oh Karen, I am just so thrilled for you. I was just telling Gail yesterday that you never know when 'Mr. Perfect for you' will come along. I am glad he was a perfect gentleman because my dear, you deserve no less! I think he would be amazed to come to a clothing exchange and see that we do eat 'real' food that tastes terrific....huh? Which...is part of why we do the pitch-it. It's so that pre-ops can see that there is food after WLS and post-ops can share recipes. Besides, it makes a great fellowship time.
Now..on date 4 or 5, if you two kids get rambunctious and decide to drive down to Indy, let us know and we'll have to arrange to meet for dinner somewhere.
So..what does Micah think about Mom dating?
hmmmm...waiting to hear about date 2.....

ps...I've never had a problem finding stuff I can eat at Cracker Barrell. It's great that they have a long list of veggies that you can choose for your sides. Their meat is usually very tender. So..maybe pork roast (which is very lean) with some carrots and greens....?
