Hello,
I woke up with 2 IV's one in my hand and one in my arm.  No tubes, no catheter etc.  I was up walking a couple hours after I got to my room.  I do not remember the recovery room and barely woke up when they put me in my room.  I have had lots of surgeries but this was the most that I was out of it.  Good luck on your surgery.

Yes, I took my own pillow. ( i Do wherever I go) Yes it hurst, I am not gonna lie to you. It's VERY Uncomfortable. They gave me pain meds and the ON CUE ball. Pain meds make me ill though, so I probably couldn't kae what most people do. I walked 4 or 5 times a day. i walked alot the better I strted feeling to get the gas out. I started with just a few feet and ended up walkin laps by day 3.

Thank you,
I guess I had oxygen in my nose but they took those out before I started walking. You are soo out of it you won't really know what is going on and it will all be a blur. They will be constantly giving you pain meds to keep you comfortable. The pain I relly flet was the gas they blow you up with. You will learn all of this in your preop class you will do with your Center. A couple of hours when you get in your room, you will be walking.

Jeanna,

You will have a tube in your throat for surgery, but it will be pulled out before you become fully awake.  If you are awake you probably wont remember it because of the drugs.
As soon as I remember getting to my room I was asking to get up and walk, just because I was so anxious.  They had to tell me that I would have to wait a little longer.  It does hurt when you walk, but its not that bad.  Just take it slow and make yourself. It will benefit you in the long run.  You will probably have pains from the gas they blow inside you and walking as much as possible is the only thing that will relieve it.
I went home on Loratab (liquid Vicodin)  I am not sure what they gave me in the hospital.
I had trouble peeing right after surgery and they had to do an in/out cath just to "wake my bladder up" as they called it. They said sometimes that after anesthetic your bladder has to be stimulated a little to get going again.  I was cathed one time and then was able to pee on my own.
I went home with a drain tube and it was a pain in the booty.  After a couple days I started having pains in my chest and I called the Dr office and they said sometimes the tube can bloat up in your chest area and cause this pain. They gave me instructions on how to remove it and my DH removed it and it was instant relief.  Not all surgeons send you home with a drain. I also went home with Lovenox (blood thinner) and I had to give my self 1 shot a day in the stomach for 10 days.  It is not bad either. Very small needle and you can barely feel it.  Not all surgeons do these either.
I was at St. V's in Carmel.  Hope this helps some and good luck with your surgery.  You will learn a lot in your pre op class.
