Laura,
Here's a link to mine on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Excalibur-Tray-Dehydrator-Dehydrater-E xcaliber/dp/B000I6MXZG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid= 1223827016&sr=8-3 . It's pricey but with the less expensive models I've had, I didn't have temperature control so I could never get things the right texture for me. You'll fine that texture is a VERY big thing for us post-ops.
I tried my hand at jerky but found I can get it 'just right' for me..easier and cheaper...if I buy it at Walmart already made in the 1 pound bags, cut it up into bite size pieces (with my Pampered Chef kitchen shears.. ;-) ) and then dry it down to my taste...which is ALOT drier than how it comes. I also dry down those pepperoni chips. Linda Kay can get them right in the microwave..but I burn them if I nuke them. They do better in the dehydrator for me.
Veggie-wise...I grew a herb garden this year and dried down much of that...and added it to some store-bought italian seasoning. I sliced the red tomatoes, zuccini, etc (lol..using my Pampered Chef madolin), placed them on the dehydrator trays, drizzled it with basil infused canola oil (you guessed it...PC), then some of my italian seasoning mix, then parmasan cheese. It's a yummy snack! I've also done onions & mushrooms.
For fruit...I tried lots of different fruits but the ones that turned out best were grapes (ie..raisens..that I put Splenda on afterwards), blueberries (kinda tastes like raisens), pineapples (my son's absolute favorite), and apples. For the apples..I choose 'crisp' varieties. If I'm doing the apples for Gail, I sprinkle them with cinnamon only because of her allergies. Otherwise, I sprinkle them with splenda & cinnamon mix or sf honey and cinnamon. They are also good with some of PC's cinnamon sprinkles on them. It's sugar..but not much. I have the PC apple peeler/corer/slicer & stand and that makes it pretty easy & quick to fill up 9 trays.
I pretty much have a dehydrating 'station' set up. Poor Bill..he sure tolerates me! LOL!
I don't know that many other post-ops are into the dehydrating like I am. I'm just so texture picky that it's easier for me to make a snack that agrees with me than to be able to find one.
Sherri
ps...I promise that Shanna did NOT ask me to keep mentioning Pampered Chef! LOL!

Robin,
No, I haven't...but I think if I were you I'd check Meijer's. They always have a wide selection of produce. That's where I usually get my blueberries. I can get them cheaper there than Walmart even. The produce stand near our house hasn't had either one this summer that I know of.
