Hey everybody!!

Hope everyone had fun at the clothes exchange-- I want to come to the next one.

My question is for those of you graduates of ST V's--
How long did you have to wear your binder post op?
I keep forgetting to ask.

Thanks!

Hi Connie,

I think they said to wear it for about a week at home.  I didn't wear mine all the time and got along fine.  Good luck !

Good! I was wondering if I would be wearing it when I go back to work after a few weeks.. That would be lovely!
Thanks for replying!!

I wore my binder for a week, and once the weight started falling off that first week, it was more trouble trying to keep it on.  After about a week is just about all I would think you would want it on.  Good Luck!!!

It just depends on you and your comfort.

After my RNY I only wore it for about a week. This last stomach surgery I had where they had to clean a bunch of adhesions up too was harsh and I had to wear the binder for 2 weeks.

I am not a st. v's patient, I had surgery at St Francis.  I was instructed to use it as long as I needed it ...about 8 days I think.  You will know when your ready.

Thanks for the replies, girls! I was just hoping we did not have to wear it for 6 weeks or so. I think I can tolerate a week or two (I get so hot with the hose and know I will this too.)

Connie,

After my RNY I wore it for just a few days. After my hernia surgery though...a few months. It all depends on your (dis)comfort level. Something I would recommend though...try wearing a light-weight t-shirt or tank top under it. I found that the binder can make me itch like crazy so a little bit of barrier between it and my skin helped alot. When I weaned myself off of it, I started off my taking it off at night and worked my way up to keeping it off during the daytime.

Thanks Sherri!

They said we could even wear it over our clothes. What a fashion statement!!! That is why I was concerned about having to wear it when I go back to work. I have had gallbladder surgery and was opened once because they thought I had a mass (not) and did not ever have to wear one.
