Read any good books lately?
Anyone have a good book to recommend?
I just read "Such a Pretty Fat" by Jen Lancaster. She also wrote "Bitter is the New Black". But "such a pretty..." is about her battle to lose weight. Although she did it without the aid of WLS, it describes the same battle we have all fought. We know, even if "outsiders" think our weight loss is easy, that the secret to success is diet and exercise. We just get a little boost. It was an inspiring book. You will find yourself cheering her along. I would recommend it.

I can eat as much as I want...I just don't want much.
I'm ashamed of what I did for a Klondike bar...
I'm into classics right now. I finished As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner not too long ago and am now reading his Sanctuary. I bought two more of his works at the Kunstfest in New Harmony last weekend. In between these two I read The Shack by William Young. It's a pretty good read. I liked it better after I finished it and reflected back on it. It will really make you think about God. I love to read.
Great topic Annette. Hope more reply.

The Shack was awesome. Several parts really touched my heart. Especially when they had devotions. It really changed the way I look at devotions.

I'm in my mystery/suspense phase right now. I love to read and have so many books I have them stuffed in the bookcase and any other place I have a niche. I have the Mitford series by Jan Karon which are very good, and quite a few by Karen Kingsbury. For whimsical reading I enjoy Lillian Jackson Braun's "Cat Who ..." series. An easy read. I like several different authors and types of material. The only thing I don't read are romance novels and sci-fi. My idea of a dream vacation is laying on the beach or poolside with a good book.
I love to hit the Half Price Book Stores and check out their clearance racks. I get hard backs and paperbacks for $1.

Annette, I have been on a huge reading binge since June this year! I read 1~2 books a week and can't get enough! I have read all the Janet Evanovitch books, especially love the Stephanie Plum series. Discovered Blaze Clement books and loved them (3 so far). Am curretly working my way thru the Beverly Lewis amish books. There are so many of them and I have read almost all of them! her Amish series are really uplifiting to my spirit and help me focus on the simple things in life. Her gentle christian spirit comes thru so beautifully and they have been such a blessing to me. I would rather sit in my chair and curl up with a good book than turn the tv on! I read mostly on weekends and get up early and treat myself to several chapters while munching thru my breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays.
Happy reading all!
Hugs!

I can't go to bed at night without reading (and sometimes the reading keeps me from going to bed!).
The books I've recommended the most in the last few years are "The Kiterunner" and "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini ... both provide an intimate look inside lives of the Afghanistan people. I also loved "The Time Travelers Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger, I heard it's being made into a movie.
For weight loss issues, I loved "Life is Hard, Food is Easy" by Linda Spangle. So many truths about our complex relationship with food!

I belong to Reader's Digest book club. They include 4 novels in each book. I'm on the 3rd novel of this book, 'Q is for Quarry' by Sue Grafton. The 4th on is Nicholas Sparks' 'Nights to Remember'. I have Stephen King's latest at home...waiting for me to finsh up this book first. I usually have one book going at work and one at home but at home right now, I'm getting through this month's Reader's Digest before I start a new one.
