I wanted to "Toot my own horn". Yesterday, Saturday, September 27 I completed my first half marathon. I have a medal to show me I did it too!!! I did it in a respectable time also. I did not feel I was even prepared for the 13.1 miles let alone finishing in the 4 hours they allot you to fini**** in. Well I did it in 3 hours 31 minutes 22 seconds, equating to a 16:09 minute mile pace. I was consistent throughout the entire course They had the timing mats at 5 mile, 10 mile and the last 5K areas. My 5 mile time was 1 hr 18 min 26 sec, the 10 mile was 2 hr 39 min 32 sec and the last 5K was 51 min 51 sec. I finished 863 out of 908 females. There was a total of 1651 finishers in all. I was not even dead last in my age group. I was 29 out of 33. So all in all I am very pleased. I have signed up for the Mini in May already and not really sure that half marathons are in my future after that one. I really do like the shorter walks. I have done quite a few 5K and a couple 10K and the 10's are not a bad distance for me mentally. I walked 13 miles last sunday in preparation for this half and my time stunk and I thought they would be putting me on the golf cart and transporting me back to the finish line. There was one lady that was a supporter, and she was ringing cow bells and clackers and we kept seeing her at different mile markers. It was like where is she going to be next!! The great part about today is I am not sore and to think a year ago it was only a dream to do a half marathon. I want to at least run part of the mini in May. Yesterday I only ran about 1-2 blocks of this course. I couldn't run any of the first 4 mile because (it was so jammed with participants,) they were also doing a 4 mile run/walk and they started all of us together so the course didn't spread out until we lost the 4 milers. All in all an awe inspiring day.
