The Dome is no more.....

The Hoosier Dome...er...RCA Dome is no more. At 10:50 this morning the fans that kept the dome roof elevated were all shut off. From my desk, I could watch it slowly go down. Well..it went slow for awhile and then boom, down it went! The next thing they'll be doing is removing anything that is usable to recycle it elsewhere. And then they'll demolish what is left and prepare the site for (another) convention center.

The Indy skyline has definately went through some changes this past year with the addition of Lucas Oil Stadium and now with the removal of the dome..but you know? I still love it! When I go over the overpass on I-70 over by the stadium and Lilly's downtown building, I KNOW I am in the right place for me right now! Yep...I'm a Hoosier....

Wow!!  We were just going through there last Saturday to Hamilton Southeastern School for my daughters band contest for her high school, and my husband and I noticed that the dome was still up there by Lucas Oil Stadium. My son even worked with the Local Insulators Union to help build that stadium. I have pictures of it as they were building it. Not good pics since they were sent over a cell phone but, still its rather neat to know he helped build that place. So, the dome in no more? I am glad we at least got a chance to see it one more time. I too am a true hoosier

I know what you mean Sherri, I love Indy also.  We moved from the far east side of Indy to Martinsiville two years ago, but Indy is still home to me.  I so miss being able to drive or walk a few blocks and shop anywhere I pleased.

My dad told me last night that he heard on the new that the white tarp that was deflated weighed 250,000 tons, that is 1/2 million pounds.  Said that it was like 8 acres big.  You dont realize it is that big and heavy just seeing it in the skyline.  I thought it was pretty  neat that they let the old mayor that ordered it to be inflated, to be able to order it to be deflated.
