Hi - Newbie here

Hi - just wanted to introduce myself.  I'm Chris, and I live in Camby IN.  I've had a consultation, and am waiting for the surgeon's office to submit my paperwork to insurance.  I plan to have RNY.  I'm looking so forward to starting my new life.

My immediate battle is to stop smoking.  I've smoked for many, many years.  I have 1 1/2 packs left.  When they are gone, I already have 2 boxes of Nicorette gum waiting to start.  I have a very good incentive to stop smoking this time, as I can't have the surgery if I still smoke.

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Hi Chris, my name is Sheila and I live about 15 miles south of you.  I also am waiting on insurance to have the RNY.

Good luck on giving up smoking, you can do it,  I quite 13 years ago I smoked about 2-3 packs a day.  I got sick and was in fear I would be on oxgeyn one day if i didnt quite.

Hi Sheila - you're close to me also. 

It's hard waiting on insurance.  Dr. Evanson's office said it would be about 2 weeks before they sent off my packet to the insurance company.  It will be a week Monday since my consultation, so maybe in about another week to 10 days they'll get it sent out.  Since I have Federal employees Blue Cross, they said we should hear pretty quickly. 

Then it's a waiting game to get on the schedule.  They told us at the consultation that they are now scheduling surgeries in November, so I figure that it will be December or January before I get a date.

I quit 7 weeks ago.  Wellbutrin worked for me.
Chantix is pretty costly, but I've heard its a surefire way to do it.

I tried Chantix about 6 months ago.  It made me extremely nauseous, to the point that I had to stop taking it.

I figure now I have a great incentive to stop.

I see you recently had surgery.  How are you getting along?

Hi- welcome to the board.  It is so neat to find out that several of the gals on here already live near you.  You will make some good friends on her to help you through your weight loss journey.  I had surgery Dec 06 and have lost 186 pounds to date.  I quit smoking the required 2 months prior to my surgery.  I was determined to quit and very determined to have the surgery.  At that time I used a product called Smoke Away that I bought at Wal-Mart.  Unfortunately about 4 months after my surgery I started to smoke again.  I am currently trying to quit but now with my small tummy I can not take the Smoke Away pills.  They are too big.  So I am using the patch.  I have not smoked since Sept 1.  It has not been easy but I am proud of myself in taking this next step in becoming a more healthy me.  You can do it!  Good luck!  Karen

Hi Karen!  Your weight loss is absolutely awesome!  Congratulations!

And congrats on stopping smoking again.  I'm afraid to use the patch - I have extremely sensitive skin, so I figure best not to.  When my smokes are gone, I'm starting the gum.  I started two weeks ago to make smoke free zones in the house. 

Hubby stopped smoking 6 years ago.  He smoked 2 packs a day - more than me - and just put 'em down one day and never picked them up again.  I hate him.  LOL

If the gum doesn't work for me, I'll look for the Smoke Away.
