...A word of warning...from Gail

Gail was happily catching up on some emails yesterday  and checking out some ecards that were sent to her.
She knows that some of us has more than one email addy so she doesn't really check out the addy when she opens up an ecard. She opens it up & then sees who it is from in the context of the card.

Not a good practice....

Gail opened one which gave her one heck of a virus and shut her system down. She has no idea who sent it to her (it could have been SPAM..not someone she even knew). Her sil (John) installed some new virus protection on it but trying to get stuff back is about like closing the barndoor after the horses have gotten out. So...he's trying to lasso the horses now.

Gail can't get onto anything but Google right now..and it even is coming up with an error (wrong Google addy...she didn't know she had a google addy!). She can't get to her AOL right now either. She's going to see if John will help her get onto his laptop tonight. For the next few days, I would say that if you REALLY need to get hold of Gail, call her (if you need her #, let me know). If you just wanna drop her a line, I'd do it through here on OH. I THINK she can get text on her cell phone (and she uses AT&T). I'd definately refrain from sending her ecards, jokes, etc right now. She doesn't know how long it will take to get her AOL back up & running so the less she has to wade through when it is back up, the better.

Since Gail has no idea who sent her the ecard with the virus, please do a scan on your CPU's with your favorite virus protection software. That's a good practice to do even if you don't send/recieve ecards or funnies.

Anyway...silence from Gail for the next few days won't mean anything is wrong with our Miss Gail...just our Miss Gail's pc.

I recently got an email stating someone sent me an ecard and to click on the link... one thing I like about Opera Browser is if you hover over a link it shows it's true address... this one was to a file ending in .exe. Knowing that I didn't click on it but sent it directly to trash.

I got a notice at my work about an email card being a virus. Just a reminder to be very careful about opening something like this.

I had something happen like this as well a few weeks ago and we had to get things fixed again. AVG is really wonderful but the free one doesn't catch everything I guess but we're gonna upgrade and pay for it.

 I had a suspicious e-mail that purportedly came from 123greetings.com, a site I've used before ... but the link had a ".it" extension. Crazy that you can't even trust an ecard!

Would you be so kind as to email me Gails phone # she ordered a bracelet from me and it has come in. I need to run it up to her house and collect for it.
