I finally made an appointment with a therapist to talk about my body image issues and to try and get myself well emotionally. Please continue to pray! I'm still so nervous but I KNOW I need to do this.

Hooray, I'm so happy for you.  I hope your first meeting went well.

I'm looking forward to starting the small group therapy sessions that St. V offers post-ops a few times a year ... later this month ... couldn't come at a better time.

Let us know if we can be of any help!

Can you tell me information about this ??? I have never heard of it? Is it something only Dr Stote's patients can do?

There was information about this in my support group packet last month...  Here's what it said:  "Dr. John Guare is offering 6 counseling sessions for those who would like to work on their bariatric journey and issues surrounding that journey.  He helps us look at topics such as "Mood and Food", relapse issues, and how to stay motivated for working your weight loss program."

It's $180 for 6 sessions.  It's every Tuesday starting September 23rd and continues until October 28th.  At the bariatric center from 7-8:30pm.

Hope this is the info you were looking for!

Misty,

It takes a lot of courage for us to tackle these issues, doesn't it?!  I'm pre-op and have been seeing a therapist to fulfill WLS requirements, however I have found I have been able to address so many issues related to food, eating, body image, etc.  The list just keeps going!  I know the steps I'm taking now can only help me in life after surgery.  Hey girl, we're all behind you 100%.  You know you can do it!

Blessings,
Christina

It was very hard to finally do it. I needed to though because it hinders my physical healing as well and I did this surgery to get healthy and I'll be darned if I don't walk away healthier physically and emotionally.

Good for you- taking control of your emotional health is as important as your physical health.I have had times where throughout my life, I have sought the help of professionals who could help me figure out what "was eating me". You are in my prayers.

Thanks, prayers are definitely welcome.

I was very nervous about a therapist because I've had a lot of people say let go and let God, talk to God, pray he can heal it ... I had such a bad idea in my head about seeing someone like I was doubting God's ability to conquer my problems but then I realized that while I get my strength from GOD and he is capable of healing and handling all I must also realize that therapist and doctors are put on this earth in order to help us as well.

It was just like I was DYING physically from my obesity, I feel like I'm DYING emotionally from what's getting me so I have to do it.
