I went to the community college today to find out what I need to do to get registered to start school. I'll have a year of pre reqs probably and they're all the same pretty much for the 3 things I'm trying to chose between. Nursing is my number 1 choice I THINK but lately I've really been thinking I'd LOVE to be a Paramedic/EMT so that I wouldn't be stuck in the same four walls plus the idea of never knowing what you're coming up on is kind of intriguing. Then there is Medical Assisting which is similar to the nursing but you do more of the office stuff vs the clinical. I'm almost 100% I want the nursing but I am still trying to decide totally. I told Richard I'd love to be a flight nurse but he says no way.

Anyways, after I get registered and get the copy of my G.E.D. scores, I will be taking the placement testing to see what I can test out of. If for some reason I have to take the classes before my pre reqs (which I don't think I should I'm good at basic English and Math skills) then I can take 8 weeks of those classes starting in October.

I'm soo excited!!!!

Going to school is the best thing a person could ever do for themselves.  Congrats and way to go!

That's fantastic, how exciting!  The great thing about health care is, they can't out source your job.  You'll always be able to find some sort of work.  If you can get in, go for the nursing ... LPN or RN ... more school, but more options and more pay later on.  Of course, EMT/paramedic would be cool too.  I imagine emtjenny can provide more insight for you there.  Way cool!

Thanks, I think I'm definitely going to stick to nursing now. I've been doing research and most the EMT/Paramedic jobs near us are volunteer basis and I don't wanna get all these student loans to pay for schooling and not make enough money to pay for it. :) I definitely want more of a hands on job than doing the MA too. :) I'm soooooooo stinking excited.

I would soi love to go back to school and become a teacher!!!  I just got in the mail books from the local schools, and have looked thru but since it has been so long, who knows what it would take!  Have fun!

Hey MistyLynn,

Congratulations on making the decision to go back to school!  I waited 10 years to go back and will thankfully be done in December.  It truly was the best decision I could have made for myself at the time!  No one can ever take that knowledge away from you!

Blessings,

Being an EMT is very rewarding and I love it for the fact that its never the same things. But go further, being a nurse was always a dream of mine and  didnt go through with it.  You will make more $ as a nurse and get to do a lot more.  You can always get your nursing out of the way and then take an EMT course and do both. I have several nurses that work for me that are EMT's as well. Then you can volunteer in your community if you wish. Volunteering is rewarding just knowing you are giving back to your community. Good luck with what you decide.

Misty that is wonderful!!! Going back to school was the greastest thing that I have done.  I didnt go bac****il I was 31 years old, wasn't the easiest thing to do as I was a single mother at the time, working, plus ended up pregnant during my first semester, but I would not change that choice for the world.  Nursing, well anything in the health care field is a great choice, there is always a need for your job.  I had a young kid from the mens college here in town asking me what I did for a living and I told him I was respiratory therapist and he was like so are telling me that you recommend me to quick smoking, so my response was well if you enjoy being healthy yes i would suggest that but on the other hand I said as bad as this sounds its people like you that give me my job security too, lol.  Ok well I think I'm rambling now but congrats on going back to school.
