I finally got it!
Well, I've been trying for a promotion for about 3 years now and today I finally got an offer!!! It is with the same agency (Customs & Border Protection), but in a different division. I don't know any of the specifics (they are very bad about that here, I'm lucky I was able to find out the division before I accepted), but I'm kind of looking forward to the change. I love what I do right now, but the deadlines fall right at spring break, the whole month of July and October. I've been on my team for 14 years and worked in 3 different areas on this team, so it will probably be a nice change. I will miss my teammates. I've worked with most of them the whole 14 years, but I do know a few people in other areas and it's not like I'm leaving the agency, just the floor!

I hope everyone is doing well today. I wish all of you with doctor appointments and sugeries good luck this week.
Gail, I saw Sherri's post that said you haven't been feeling well. I hope you are on the mend.
Brenda, congratulations on the new grandbaby. I'm sure the next 8 months will be an emotional roller coaster and tons of fun. Just don't buy out the baby store!
Ellen, enjoy your retirement. You've worked your share and deserve to do stuff just for fun now.
Everyone have a great day.
The one idea that went through my mind that I DIDN'T mention to my boss about our upcoming move is that at least I'll be closer to the IT department so they can get to know me....and my pc skills..

Jan,
CBP does just what it says: We are responsible for collecting Customs duties, user fees etc (we are 2nd only to IRS for collecting money for the government);, making sure fake stuff (clothing, furniture, handbags, cds/dvds, etc) doesn't make it into the market place, preventing drugs, illegal products/produce and weapons from being imported or snuck into the country. We also are responsible for preventing illegal aliens & terrorists from entering the country.
The actual immigration policy is enforced by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement). They are more the "policing the people already here" side of it. They are responsible for catching the illegal immigrants that managed to cross the border or who came in on temporary visas and then disappeared into the wood work.
I work on the Finacial Statements so I don't really see any of the day to day activity at the border. It is a good agency to work for and I've been pretty happy here for 14 years. I've worked for two other agencies (Bankruptcy Clerk's Office and U.S. Marshals Service) and have enjoyed my time with the government. I've found all of my jobs to be fullfilling and challenging.
This isn't as technical as Sherri's discription of her job, but I hope that it answered your questions!
(((((((((((((hugs))))))))))
