Good morning to everyone!  I have the first day teacher jitters so I am up early.  You would think after having 31 years under my belt, I wouldn't feel this way.  I've been awake since 3:30 watching the clock and finally said NUTS to this and got up.  I should be good and worn out by the end of the day since the kids will be staying a full day on this first day rather than only 1/2 day like they usually do.  It's so exciting to see all the kids with their new tennis shoes and bookbags come filing in.  Had a restful weekend.  I made some new protein ice cream, but haven't tried it yet.  Well, I licked the spatula after I made it and it was fine at that point.  I will sample it tonight and let you all know how it tastes.  I made Key Lime Pie Ice Cream.
Linda, I noticed that you got your new pic at goal weight.  You look fantastic!  I hope to see you at the next clothing exchange which I think is scheduled for October.
Sherri- you are in my prayers with all of your upcoming doctor's appointments this week.  I know that Bill has one scheduled too.  I hope you got enough done at work this past weekend that you won't be too worried about not being there this week.
Ellen-if my memory serves me right you start retirement this week.  Enjoy this relaxing time in your life.
To everyone else, hope you have a great day.  Watch out for the school busses and all of those excited kids.  Karen

Good morning everyone!

Boy, was last night an insomiac night! Okay..if I go to sleep right now, I'd get 4 hours of sleep....3 hours...1 hour and 15 minutes....grrr!!!! And today is a 10 hour + day at work!

I think I probably need to talk to one of the doctors about filling out some paperwork for intermittent FMLA but I don't know which one to ask. Dr. Bergman sees me the most often (next appt is Wed.)...but Dr. Fecht is the one who orders the most tests (next appt is Tuesday)...and yet it's Dr. Gupta who will be doing the surgery thing on Friday. All I know is I feel like I'm burning up all of my vacation time going to doctor appointments. Bill has another one with Dr. Price Thursday. So...today is the ONLY day this week without anything medical going on. That was why I came in & worked 4 hours yesterday.

We found out last Friday that our product's (Humalog) lab people were going to be physically moved into another building. In some ways, it has it's advantages; parking is close, there's a cafeteria & work-out center in that building, the building is only 2-3 years old so the lab is new. It also has it's drawbacks; the chillroom is small, we're being thrown in with another group...who isn't too happy about having people being thrown in with them (they had to be reminded that it is us who are being up-rooted), we will be physically separated from everyone else in our department...and from our product (and the materials needed to run our lab models), not sure if we'll have enough room for all of our equipment, I only know 1 of the 5 people we are being thrown in with. So...Kelly & I are going to go over today and check out our new digs I think.  They were going to give us a tour of that lab & chillroom AFTER the meeting to decide what equipment we'd have room to take with us!?!?! I don't think either of us would have much to contribute at that meeting without having even seen the space they are referring to! I suggested to my boss that we have a lunch or something as a team builder since none of us know each other really. Oh..there's 3 of us..me & Kelly and our boss Brian. There's 5 of them including their boss (the boss is the one person I know). Kelly & Brian are NOT happy at all about this announcement. I'm looking forward to the perks myself. I'm a little apprehensive about the people/personality part of it but I'm sure we can work around that. They have bigger degrees than me & Kelly, but we have the years of experience (me, almost 20 yrs and Kelly almost 30 yrs...Brian, 21 yrs...most of their 5 people has 5-10 yrs). It'll be the first time in 20 years that I'll be in a new building and have a desk area outside of the lab so that's all cool.

Karen..I can only imagine the butterflies a teacher must get that first day every year. I would imagine that you get some of the same students from year to year so it's got to be exciting to see how much they've changed over the summer.

Gail...I'm glad you were feeling better when we talked yesterday. I hope today, you are feeling even better & are able to keep more down. Those pesky summer bugs can be the absolute worst I think!

Ellen...I hope you enjoy re-entering the world of retirement. Now girl, STAY THERE! At least until your medical stuff is under control AND you come accross a job that is right for YOU. Don't let anyone monopolize your time now...it is YOUR time. Well...unless it's Dana...

Well everyone...have a very good Monday.

Well, like everyone else so far, no sleep for me!  I am ready to go for my back surgery.  I am very nervous for some reason.  Funny, but all I can think about right now is trying to get myself to have a bm!  I just don't want to get there and decide I have to go then have dirty butt (if you know what I mean!)!!!!!  I'm dreading the anesthesia.  I have such a time with waking up.  I just can't wait...NOT!

Everything here at home is cleaned up and ready for me to be down for a few days.

DH is waiting...ready to go!  I'll post probably later today on how things went assuming anesthesia wears off sometime today!

Good Monday Morning Ya'll,
I couldn't sleep either. My knees have been hurting alot lately. Arthritis. Seems Like the last 5-10 pounds lost, my knees have hurt alittle more than usual. I need to take some Tylenol. I am sittin' here eating my breakfast. Oikos Yogurt w/ protein powder and Fresh peaches w/ splenda. 28 grams of protein. Yummy...oh and A splash of SF vanilla syrup. My next task to master is protein Ice cream. I have yogurt concotions and protein drinks down to a science.
Yesterday we went a nd picked up a dryer we bought off of craigslist. Lets see how it runs. It was 100.00 so it has to work better than my old one, you could run for 3 hours and wouldn't dry a darn thing.
Everyone here is off to school, work, sitters. I need to get going. I need to pay my water bill before I head into work this morning. Yesterday I was 166.0 so things have been dropping pretty steadily still. I can really tell the inches! Friday I bought my first pair of 10's. EVER! I have never worn 10's in my life. In high school I was a 13/14. But I think the sizes nowadays run alot different than back then.
Terry is still going back and forth for hearing testing and such. He went last Friday and he has moderate to mild hearing loss. He goes back to the spec. today and they are going to look over the test. They are thinking that his ears are not draining and they are wanting to put in tubes. HUH go figure. The ear infection that he had started back in febuary really did a number on his ears. They had him on amoxacillian and nasanex. Seems to be helping but after 2 weeks you think It would be cleared. Its not.
Good luck to all w/ Dr.'s appts. and surgeries this week. You will all be in my thoughts and Prayers! Have a great Monday :)

Good morning all! I have the day off, so just alot of house cleaning around here today.  Not much else going on.  I have to run to human resources later this morning to see if I can get my paycheck straightened out.  Apparently I am not the only one that had their check messed up, so there will be a long line of people waiting for money! LOL  Go figure!  Oh well, I guess we can wait just like all the people I owe are having to wait too!

Hope everyone has a great day.  It is going to be beautiful today.  It is supposed to be warm and sunny, so I may get out and get some sun this afternoon.  I don't want to let my tan fade this soon!

Take care, and have a wonderful day!
At Goal! 165 pounds gone forever! Thank you Lord!

Boy what a bunch of insomniacs.  I slept like a rock last night and could barely roll out of bed thins morning in time to get my chores done, shower and get to work.   We worked our tails off all weekend.  We trimed fence lines, painted, moved some rocks, cleaned the barn. We had a large pile fo dirt from when the excavated for the new barn.  DH scooped it up in the tactor bucket and hauled it back to a run in shed.  It was built on uneven ground and 1 side has never been filled to level so we used this dirt to level it out,  I got the manual shovel and rake part of the job and I think that is what wiped me out.  I also got more done in the house than I have in a couple of weeks.  Cleaned all the floors, caught up on laundry and dusted.  Also did some sort and pitch.  Still didn't get my windows washed.  Gee it doesn't sound like much but we didn't have much time to sit around,

Karen hope you have a good first day.  I still remember those going back to school night mares.
Can't remember the locker combination, can't find my book,  being late, worst of all being naked or partially naked.  Any of you all have school night mares like that?

Shanna, hope the new dryer works.  It was so nice to meet you and your family at the camp out. Makes it so much easier to put a face with a name once you have met.  My husband enjoyed talking shop with your DH at dinner Saturday.

Sherri-  Well you just get better,  Someday we need to talk about what you do there at Lilly.  Sounds interesting,

I've got to go,  It's Monday and I've had 6 patients walk in while I've been trying to write this.
I didn't even get on all weekend but I wanted to get a quick check up on everyone.

Have a good day all.

Jan,

The abbreviated way that I describe my job is that I take what goes on in production and I make a small-scale lab model of it. At one time, after I would prove that it behaved the same as production, I then trained someone else to run it and went on the make another one. These days, I get to spend more time with them...which I am very happy about.

Some of our steps is a chemical reaction..you add A to B to make C. While I've done these, Kelly usually ends up with these.

Some of our processes concentrate the liquid and then exchange the liquid it's in with something else (like removing the 7-up in a 7-7 and replacing it with coke for a whiskey & coke...and concentrating it to make it a STRONG whiskey & coke). I've also done plenty of these...but my boss Brian usually winds up with most of these anymore.

And then other processes of ours, we separate out the components that are in the material to try to isolate the one we want. These processes are my specialty. All of the programming is on the computer (Unicorn software). After the separation, they are assayed on another piece of equipment to see how strong & how pure that component is. Again, very computer based as well (Empower software). Then all the data is put into Excel and/or a statistic program (JMP) and a technical report is usually written in Word. Sometimes, we also present this information to others, using PowerPoint. So..in addition to this type of lab model (an AKTA...which, we have 12 of in our lab) and the HPLC's that we assay them on (High Performance Liquid Chromatography...we have 14 of these), I also have the responsability of all of this equipment's performance maintenence scheduling & their computer systems upgrades & upkeep. Basically, no one else wanted it..lol. Which also means that it's going to be quite a job to get this part switched over when we move into the new lab area. My equipment is going to take up more space than anyone else's so I'm kinda anxious to go check it out..which we are doing this afternoon.

For what it's worth, I'm our AKTA/HPLC/Unicorn/Empower guru...lol...but we all are pretty versed on Microsoft Office & JMP (the statistics package). The stuff I'm working on right now takes 44 hours to run on the AKTA..so I'm very busy the first 6 hours or so of Day 1..then not so much so the next day. That is the day that I'm on the computer alot getting things done.

Points of interest:
The HPLC is a cousin to the ones the Quincy and CSI lab personel refer to...a GC (Gas Chromatograph and the Mass Spec (to put it REAL simple...a fancy GC).

A GC is what med labs use to to see if there's drugs in a blood sample..and how much.

All clear now? LOL!

Today is my hubbys first day back at work since his 2nd hip replacement. My sons second week in the first grade. And my first day alone since my surgery two weeks ago. I have cleaned the kitchen almost sparkling ) lets see, i've done laundry and actually folded the clothes ) ( yes I hate folding and putting up laundry I just dont know why but i've conquered that for today) I've walked the Bulldogs and the Wolfhound twice already today (every two hours so far )
Weighed myself today and I am 242.4 yay!! that makes 24 pounds gone since surgery two weeks ago!!! Also today, I have gotten one protein shake in so far, 26 grams of protein with youghurt for thickness, 6 grams of protein, mixed with milk, 8 grams of protein. I think I have mastered this whole getting protein thing down. Yay for me!!
I am now starting to settle down a bit, my incisions are starting to hurt so Ill probably just go walk for the rest of the hours left until Ciaran comes home from school, and meet hubby at the door with a big hug and kiss. I miss them both so darn much its killing me!!!
