Broken toe..maybe...????
OK, clutz that I am walked right into the corner of our coffee table. After my foot hit it, I looked down and my little toe was kinda stuck out to the side some. I gently ran my hand over it and it went back to where it was. That was about 30 minutes ago. It's staying there...but I think it's swelling some. It's a little ouie but I've definately had worse.
So here's my question...if you break your little toe, what is done about it? Just an ice pack or what? Surely they don't put a cast (walking or otherwise) on your foot for that toe.....? I guess I feel that if they will just tell me to put ice on it, even if it broken, then why bother going to the ER or anywhere to get it x-rayed.
Input? Advise? I'm going to go to bed and hope that in the morning it will be better.

I've broken my pinkie toe (at least a dozen times if not more) and the most they ever done for me is tape it to the next toe, tell me to wear loose shoes (aka flip flops**** for the swelling, and tylenol for the pain.

Owwwww! That smarts!
Hope you are able to get some rest tonight. I took my DH to the ER a few months ago when he broke a toe--he broke the one next to his pinky. The most they did was tape it to his middle toe and told him to take tylenol. We were at the ER until 3 AM for that brilliant advice. Ugh! If it were me, I would try to tape it to your next toe to stabilize it. Just my 2 cents!

Ouch, hope it heals fast. The advice they both have givem is the same I would give as well.......there just isn't much more to do with it than that. Too bad Jenny isn't online this evening, or she would be able to help you out more! LOL Take care!

Sherri, I have broken my big toe on my one foot so many times it is probably wondering what happened since it has been awhile. hahaha I never went to the doctor about it since I knew that they wouldn't do anything about it. I never taped it either but a few days later the pain subsides and they heal on their own. Sorry it happened. They can be so painful. Keep your shoes loose too. Closed toed shoes is going to make it hurt more. Trust me on that one.
Thanks ladies. It definately feels like it's broken this morning. Looks like it too with the swelling. I'm not sure how I'm going to get shoes on right now. With my job, closed toe shoes are a requirement. Well..we'll see.

Oh Sherri, been there done that! OUCH! I concur with all of the suggestions of taping the broken toe to the one next to it, but I would advise trying to find a pair of shoes that you can wear that are closed. If you wear a sandal or flip flop you increase your chances of bumping it again or getting stepped on. That has been what has been best for me. Wait until you see the rainbow of colors you will see...amazing! Good luck and take care. Karen
Clutz, (LOL!)
No, the ER wont do anything about a broke toe unless its a compound fracture (bone sticking thru the skin), just keep an ice pack on it and keep it elevated. It will be sore for a while. If you can take any type of anti-inflammatory, do that as well. You could also what they call "buddy tape" it. Tape your injured toe to the one next to it and just wrap tape around both of them. That splints it a little bit.
Hope you get to feeling better soon.
Been there, done that. You are not the only clutz.
I say a few words and usually tape it for support also but I like the closed shoes instead of the sandels for the reason Karen mentioned. It hurts like heck to get it on and I don't take it off till I can leave it off. After the first day I wear a closed toe, open heal shoe. Then I can slip the shoe on and off as needed. Can't tell you how many times I've done that or had a horse step on my foot.
Girl will you know what to do when you are pain free?

I didn't have a choice but to go with closed toe. It's a requirement of my job. I wasn't able to get on the ones that just slip on though. Everyone at work is watching me limp by and they just shake theri head as in 'what did hse do now???'. lol!
Sherri..pain-free...isn't that what is known as an oxy-moron?
