OT: Coming to Indy!

Hi guys!

I am coming into Indy the weekend of Aug 15.  My husband is going to GenCon (sooo not my thing, so I'm going to have to entertain myself).

Do you have any suggestions for fun things to do or good WLS- friendly places to eat around the downtown area?

Not sure where you are staying downtown but there is TGIF's and at the Circle Center Mall downtown indy there is a great food court you can choose almost anything.  Downtown Indy is a great place to shop and eat now... I LOVE Laughmiller's Bar... they have GREAT Chili!! meat and beans...YUM MO!! It is right a cross the street from the Government Center on Washington Street.

I don't know Indy that well but the last time I was there, Brenda and Floyd took us to the zoo.  I think it was right downtown.  It was great!  What a fun time we had.  Make sure you look into it.  It was such a neat place.

Circle Center Mall, Indiana State Museum and the Indianapolis Zoo are all within walking distance of each other.

If you have a car...Children's museum, tour the motor Speedway, Symphony on the prairie, Conner Prairie,IRT,Beef &Boards, Broad Ripple.....lots more

Thanks for the replies!  It's going to be just me (kids are staying home with dad) and I like to shop and walk around to see cool new things. 

We will have a rental car, and we're staying at the Staybridge City Centre.  Is that considered "downtown"?  Also, and please forgive me if I sound rude, (remember I'm coming from the Detroit area) is the area safe to walk around in by myself?  It's hard coming to a city you know nothing about!!

I personally LOVE to walk around Downtown Detroit.  My sister lives in Allen Park, so I am there quite often.  I love going to the Renniseance Centre, and of course to see all the other sights down there!  Have fun in Indy.  I have never gotten to spend as much time there as I would like, so enjoy it for me as well!

It is not bad, I grew up in Indy and I do not beleive they have anymore crime then any other large city.  I am not sure where the Staybridge City Centre is, I am not familar with that name, but so many things have changed names, they are numorous musuems in the downtown area, Circle Central Mall, Indpls Zoo.  Hope you enjoy your weekend.
