I'm thinking I should know this answer by now but I dont lol.  Can we take meds in capsule form and still get all the benifit from it.  I have an antibiotic that is pretty big but I think I could get it down with some work.  I did call a pharmacy and they said I could put it on applesauce or something but let me tell you its not a easy thing to get down cuz it taste HORRIBLE !!!!!  I thought I had heard we didnt digest capsule forms, but i really dont remember. If anybody could help with this answer I would be so happy.  Thanks

We can take capsules.  As long as you can swallow it ok capsules are fine.  My multivitamin is a capsule.  I am also on an antibiotic which is in capsule form.

Ulisha,

The test is suppose to be: drop in a glass of water for 5 minutes. If it doesn't dissolve in it, it won't dissolve in your pouch. Remember..we don't have the portion of the stomach with all the stomach acids any more.

For myself, if it's in capsule form, it just doesn't work the same as if it is in tablet form. I've gotten in the habit of asking the prescribing doctor 'Does that come in tablets?'. My rule of thumb with anti-biotics is pretty much if I have an infection, I make sure I say 'tablet or liquid please!'. If it's a precaution thing...I usually just take whatever I'm given...and no, I don't break it apart.

If you swallow it whole, just be very attentive to your body and contact the prescribing doctor ASAP if you see any symptoms of an infection stating up.

Good luck!

Unfortunatly I have to take a capsule twice a day for my diabetic nueropathy. I get some applesauce made with splenda in a medicine cup and mix the meds with that. It is bitter but then I drink something after it and it helps. Just make sure you don't drink a lot. I have found that a couple of swallows of milk with take the taste away without a lot of liquids. You get use to it and it isn't so bad. Really it isn't.
