Today is my 3 year surgiversary!
Hard to believe that 3 years has past since my surgery!
This time 3 years ago, I was a nervous wreck. Scared to death! I knew I was ready, but I was afraid! I had had a blood clot before and almost died. My husband had tried over and over that morning to talk me out of it. (Not meaning bad), but he just knew I was going to get a clot this time and he just knew I would die from it! He just knew it! The night before he made me take pictures of us together so he would have them near him. One good thing, those pictures are the ones I show everyone now as my "fat" pictures! He has since lost around 40 lbs also.
I used to be on 7 medications. I am down to 2 NEW ones. And they are WLS related...an enzyme and stomach meds. That's all besides the vitamins. My labs have been great each year I go. I won't get my labs in till late September because my 3 year appointment is in October!
Things I don't miss:
1) feeling like I don't fit into a chair.
2) going to the plus size department
3) OVEREATING
4) absolutely hating myself because I let myself get into that shape!
5) stares and glances and seeing them look away quickly when I catch them looking at me or what I am eating
6) huffing and puffing up the stairs
7) sick stomach and diarrhea from the food that was slowly killing me
8) being afraid I wouldn't fit into the plane seat or the theatre seat
so many, many more things.....
All told, I have lost 119 lbs! Almost 1/2 my weight!!! I'm so excited!!!!!!!!!
Would I do it over? A resounding YES!!!!!! IN A HEARTBEAT!!!!!
I've worked hard. It hasn't been easy and will NEVER be easy. It's a mind game that I play to win and I will!
Thanks to all of you on here. I've made friends that will last a lifetime. I know when I need help, I can always come on here and e-mail or post and get help.
One more thing, please keep me in your prayers as I go to the surgeon on Tuesday, July 22nd to see about surgery on my back. It has been and continues to be so painful even though I have had 2 needle surgeries that haven't helped a bit. I want to have the surgery to get my life back because I can't exercise or hardly even walk upright.
Thanks again!

Lois,
Congrats on a very successful post-op life! Woo-hoo!
Do you see the Indiana Hemophilia Center prior to having surgeries? After me getting the clots in October, they told me that I was to see them and be on blood clot prevention prior to any surgery that would prevent me from walking & being active. The way it was put was a nose job? No. Appendix? Yes. I would definatly classify back surgery as the latter. You were probably put on lovenox with your WLS..especially since you were at St. V's..which would attribute to no clots from that surgery. It is definately possibly to get clots although you'd lost weight. You may want to ask your pcp about if you should have a consult with the IHC. Are you on coumadin? Bill wasn't afraid of me having my hernia surgery due to the possiblity of a blood clot forming. I think we were both more concerned about afterwards because blood thinners caused my white cells to drop and they are what assists in your healing. That part turned out fine anyway. lol.
Again, congrats. I love seeing the newbies on here, but it warms my heart to see fellow long-term post-ops!

Sherri:
I actually have a blood dr (hematologist) that I go to on an as needed basis. I do not take anything for clotting right now. I have Factor V Leiden and that is why I clotted. I knew it before my WLS and so they gave me shots even before I went into surgery. They said it was a very bloody surgery for them, but for me to miss the blood clots that was what it took. I also took Lovenox shots for almost 6 weeks post op. They didn't want me to throw a clot. One thiing I will be asking the surgeon is if I need to see my hemo dr before surgery.
I've got degenerative disc disease that has become progressively worse. The bad thing is now that I have lost my weight I want to run. Running is not good on the back. Especially where my injury is located. But I've been told after surgery and recouperation, I should be able to run again PAIN-FREE! I'm so excited!!!! I love to run!!! I miss exercising!!!! I WANT MY LIFE BACK!
Thanks again to all my fellow WLSer's. I plan on being on here at 4 years and saying "I've still got it off after 4 years!"
