Protein Bars- When??
When can we start eating protein bars, etc?. I am not a big breakfast person or lunch for that matter so these will be a great help to me.

Kim,
How are you doing?
I visited the the St. Vincent Nut. at 7 weeks and told her I was concerned about out upcoming vacation. She gave me a list of protein bars and said they were OK. But, they are not to be used as a substitute for a meal. I've tried a few and like the South Beach 19-20 grams protein (not just the breakfast bars). Found them at Walmart in the health food area. I feel very guilty eating it - like it's a snack, so I don't plan on eating them to much!

I started eating them at about 4 to 5 months. I asked the doctor's PA and she told me it would be fine. I tired a lot of different kinds and the South Beach ones aren't bad but the Pure Protein is better for you. I tired the peanut butter and omg I wanted to puke! I tired the smores flavor and they are good. I of course have never had a smores in my life so I can't compare and maybe that is a good thing. I just got the Pure Protein bars in chewy chocolate chip and they aren't bad either. Just make sure you eat them slow and chew them good. They can be very chewy!
At my one month/5 week checkup, I was told I could have them at 6 weeks post op. I like the Pure Protein the best...I bought some individual bars at Target and Meijer before buying a box, just to make sure I did OK with it. The peanut butter and s'mores are my favorites; the chewy chocolate deluxe was way too rich for me. Even now I can only eat one or two a week; they are so dense! My NUT told me to replace one protein shake with a bar. Now that I'm off the protein shakes, I have a bar with my afternoon glass of milk, just sipping the milk enough to add some moisture because they are quite dense.

Thanks. Sounds like I am really close, so I might try it. I was looking at them more to replace the protein drinks, that don't sit well with me. 5 weeks out and I still dont get even close to all the protein that I should be getting in.

Kim,
I never got to try any due to my allergy to Aspertame like spenda or any artifial sugars. The NUT at ST V's hard a tough time finding something to get protein in for me. I use a whey protein powder in a low fat pudding, due to sugar free having spenda.
It might help some. Hugs,Love & Blessings, Gail
