Question about Rooms at St. V's

My husband is scheduled for surgery Wed at St Vincent's. In his literature it says it's POSSIBLE for a family member to stay in the room with him. We live two hours away and it would be a great help if I didn't have to get a hotel. Plus I would like to be close to him 24/7. I had RNY two years ago and he was with me most of the time, but late at night when nursing staff was low, it would have been nice to have someone right there. Do they REALLY let you stay in the room at night with the patient?

Not really sure what the answer is to you question, but the rooms are big for somebody to stay if need to be, well at least mine was.  My husband didnt stay with me due to the fact that we had kids at home and nobody to keep them during that night but i do know that I was happy for the piece and quiet time to myself lol.  I slept pretty much the whole time I was there except for when i was walking.  I work at the St V's on 86th street though and they let people stay all the time so in just my opion I would think that carmel would be about the same way.  Sorry not really much help but I tried  Just give them a call and ask I'm sure they would help you out.

I just had my surgery 3 weeks ago at St. V and they asked my husband if he wanted to stay over night.  He did not need to because we live close, but they did offer.

I just had my surgery 3 weeks ago.  My husband stayed with me the first night.  As soon as you get to your room tell your husband to ask for a cot and they will bring one for him and put it in your room.  The staff there are very nice and helpful.   Jacque

Will be having my RNY on July 7th @ Carmel St. V's.  My daughter had hers done a year ago and her husband was able to stay w/her.  She will be staying w/me b/c she is a respiratory therapist w/St. V/s and used to work on the bari floor - wanted my own personal therapist in case anything goes south during the night.  She is my official security blanket.  Plus since she worked there she knows all the staff and I know they will take good care of me.  Must admit that I'm getting more anxious as the days go by.  Good luck to your husband, you, and your family.  Jackie

Hello. I had surgery at ST V's on 5/12 and my hubby stayed in the room with me. They had a recliner for my husband. Super nice. It made it nice that he could help me walk the first few hours... :)

jjarell2, thanks for the info. I see you had Dr Gupta. She doesn't seem to have much bedside manner. What was your experience?

Hi, I have no idea about your question because I am just starting the process. However, I wanted to say Hi because I saw you were from Ossian. I grew up in Ossian and moved to fort wayne when I got married 9 years ago. I would love to move back but my husband is not into the country scene. Holly
