Long wait with for Dr. Inman

I'm just curious how many of you have approval and are waiting for surgery with Dr. Inman?   I iniitially had my consult with another surgeon at St. V's  but in the end I decided on a surgery that only Dr. Inman performs.   I could have already had my surgery with several surgeons if I was having lap band or RNY  based on  their surgery schedules.  Has anyone switched surgeons due to the long wait? Just anxious I guess.

OK, I have a feeling I'm going to tell you what you already know.  If you've decided to do the DS, then Dr. Inman is well worth the wait.  Since we're talking about a major surgery that will change you for the rest of your life, then you want to make sure you're making the best choice for you.  If that choice is DS, don't switch to RNY just to get it a few months sooner.  I know her wait is long, particularly for DS, but it's probably worth it in the long run!  And I'm a lap-band patient, so I'm certainly not biased in favor of DS.  I just know that Dr. Inman's patients are very satisfied with her, and her DS folks do particularly well. I'm sure Lori Black would be willing to talk to you a little about DS and Dr. Inman, she's a huge fan of hers.  You can search for Lori under the "People Search" function. Good luck in your journey!

Actually I'm not thinking of changing...I will wait it out as no other surgeon in this area perfoms the DS.  II was wondering about others that are waiting for lap band or RNY.....I guess if I was waiting for one of those procedures I might consider another surgeon in order to get it done sooner.  From what I've read about the St. V's surgeons it seems everyone has had great experiences with them and most do these two surgeries.   Thanks for your reply!

Congrats on your approval and welcome to our board.                                                     I had RNY (so also not biased for DS). My initial consult was with Dr. Jones. Dr. Jones was the surgeon my pcp at the time had recommended. He (my pcp) really knew very little about weight loss surgeries..which is why I ultimately found a new pcp later on...and Dr. Jones was the only one that he had heard much about. If I'm not mistaken, this was prior to Dr. Inman doing the DS. At the consult, I liked Dr. Jones just fine...most people do. She's a very friendly person. After I got my approval, when the scheduler called to set up the surgery date, she had told me that Dr. Jones waiting list was somewhere in the neighborhood of 6-9 months long! She asked me if I'd be willing to go to one her partners instead...Dr. Gupta ...........and that if I was, I could have the surgery within a matter of weeks. I did say yes and switched surgeons. Had she recommended someone outside of Dr. Jones group, I'm not so sure I would had said yes though. After having that one consult, I had enough faith in Dr. Jones to believe that she would only have people working with her as partners which were equally as good as she is. Dr. Gupta has not let me down on that expectation. So in answer to your question...yes, I switched and no, I don't regret doing so. HOWEVER....if Dr. Jones had been the ONLY surgeon offering RNY and all the others had done lap-band only, I would not have switched. I knew which surgery I wanted & felt was best for me. Had Dr. Inman been doing the DS at that time and/or if I had known about Dr. Inman & DS, I most likely would had held out for her instead of Dr. Jones.                       Sherri

I am having RNY and Dr. Inman is my surgeon.  My initial consulation was January 28, 2007.  I got my approval within weeks and got my surgery date end of March and I am not having my surgery until July 15, 2008.  Initially I was very discouraged and entertained the thought of switching surgeons.  Now I am so glad I stuck it out...so many people have told me that she is the best.  So it is worth the wait. Be patient and the time will fly by, it has for me anyway.  Good luck.

Hi, Dr. Inmans average waits are usually 3-4 months, and sometimes longer.  I am submitting my paperwork to insurance tomorrow, and I hope to get approved and schedudled with a date at least by august.  I am planning on having my surgery sometime in December hopefully.  Dr. Inman i well worth the wait though!

LOL, my wait was only about a month. I guess most people aren't too keen on having bariatric surgery the week of Thanksgiving! I didn't mind though, the sooner the better to start my new life.

I know a couple of people who went to Dr. Inman and they've said nothing but good things. 3-4 months may seem like a long wait but it's nothing compared with the rest of your life! I agree with everyone else, don't switch surgeries just to get it done sooner. Hang in there!
