Low Calcium?

Has anyone experienced low calcium from the surgery?  I had my thyroid and about 3/4 of my parathyroid taken out about 8 years ago.... every since the surgery I've had all the symptoms of low calcium levels (hands have been locking up, cranky, tired, cranky, numbness in feet and face, cranky - LOL!)  I take about 3xs the amount of calcium I should  just to "regulate" (when I was in the hospital for my GB surgery I had to be put on a calcium IV because it dropped so low).... I FINALLY got an appointment with a endocrinoigist on July 1st, but just wasn't sure if anyone else every experienced any of this and what they/dr did about it....
