Question for Sheri, I think

Wasn't it Sheri that was explaining the increased need for fluids if one drinks coffee with caffeine?  I am assuming from what was said that this doesn't work the same for decaf. coffee?  Is it the caffeine that causes the diuretic effect?  I sure like having my decaf. but I don't want to mess up my fluids and/or risk an ulcer.  Am I safe enough?

Yep, that was me! Caffiene in indeed the culprit, not the bean....although, I remember during one diet attempt years ago, a doctor told me that the bean isn't good. Anyway, caffiene will cause ulcers (it did to me). It also is an appetite stimulant (who needs that???). And it dehydrates you (not neccesarily by being a diuretic). For those who absolutely insist on having their morning java fully leaded, they need to drink 2 oz of water for each ounce of caffiene in addition to the 64 oz of water recommended. Me? I'll just drink decaf. So...are you safe enough? Yep, you sure should be! And if you drink it black or with sugar-free additives (I'm a sweet&low and sf creamer drinker myself), then that liquid also counts toward your water consumption for the day. Win-win! Sherri

Thanks, Sheri, for letting me know.  I feel really new at this and am appreciating all the posts on this site and the information that is shared. I won't feel guilty about my decaf. now!
