Ok since I've got my date now (October 26) I have too much time to obsess.  I keep thinking about what I need to take with me for surgery, what I need to have at home after surgery, will I be able to take care of my 6yr old dd or should I get help from my mom for a while, so on and so on. I'm wondering, all of you who have had the surgery, is there one thing you wished you knew before that you know now?  For example, is there something you wished you packed for the hospital stay that would've made it better for you? Thanks so much! Jacqui

Lip balm was the only thing I needed.  The hospital (Clarian North) provided anything and everything I needed.  My stay was too short to really need anything.  I wasted my time packing magazines and movies.  I was either walking the halls or sleeping or too groggy from the anethesia/drugs to read or watch TV. I don't have a little one, but my sister did come stay with me for a couple of days as my DH was out of town on business.  But I was really pretty self-sufficient when I got home.  She was there more for company and my DH's peace of mind. You'll do great!

The only thing I needed was to bring home the monkey bar that I used to get myself out of bed.  Other then that everything will be there that you need.  I did take my bible to read because I am an early riser.  I was sitting up in the chair when Dr. Jones came in early Sat. morning and said you can go home after 5:30PM.  I rejoiced. Wished I said yes to a pain shot before I left so if they offer say YES.  The pharmacy was closed so I waited until Sunday AM to get the script filled.  I did not need much pain medication so don't worry about that. 10/26 will be here pretty quick and your chance at a new you will start.  God Bless. PS give your 6 yr. old away for 2 weeks he he he. No find someone to help after you first get home.  Just think after a short while you will be able to keep up with the 6 yr. old.

Jacqui, Congratulations on getting your date.  It'll be here before you know it.  Brenda and I had our surgery 11 days apart so her mom came to help us for the first couple weeks.  With a 6 year old, you may want to have someone to help.

Congrats Jacqui on your surgery date.  I too am in the same situation as you. what do I need.  But everyone tells us good advice.  NOt to buy too much of anyone thing because we may not like it.  I just want to get some protein powder and maybe some of those protein bullets etc and of course what the dietician and doctor told us to get.  It will be here before you know it.  Good Luck Lisa
