How Long Did You Wait?

Just was wondering how long you had to wait from the time you met your surgeon for the first visit to when you had your surgery?  What is the shortest time anyone has had to wait? I know that there are usually weeks, and months, so I was trying to find an estimate on how long it took. Also, whether it took longer for insurance to approve the first time or you had to have an appeal. Thanks..........I am really getting excited now, and I know it is still going to be quite some time..... but I will manage!

Hey gal... I had my consult on June 7th....I took all the info I had with me to hand into the doc. I had to stop smoking for 2months...my letter went to Insurance for approval on August 17th and I was approved on August 24th...I have a pre-op test date of Sept. 11 and my surgery is set for Sept. 27th at 8 am! I am sure If I did not have to quit smoking I would have already had surgery by now! So my time went by fast I believe.

I had my consult at the beginning of August last year, and had surgery in November!

I had my consult with Dr Gupta Aug. 4.  I am still waiting on them to call me with my surgery date.  They have my approval letter.  I think they are making me suffer since I have been a pain in their a$$....lol.  I am hoping they call me today, I mean seriously how much time does it take to call someone and give them their surgery date so they will shut up and quit bugging you. I am not a patient person and that makes the wait even worse.  So try to be patient or it will be terrible on you, like it has been for me. I wanted my surgery date the a day in the last 2 wks of Sept. because my DH is on vac., and I told them that, but I dont think it is going to happen that way, so now I will have to find someone else to take me because he probably wont be able to get off again in October or even Nov.  When I met with Dr. Gupta I asked her if a end of Sept surgery date was feasible and she said yes, but according to the scheduling people they say no.

Well, here goes- my wait was-- 14months, bacause I was denied the first time! my Ins. & their Phy.(Stote) denied me the surgery, said I needed more support groups, dieting, & counciling. I did go to 10 mo. of support groups, twice a month- the best thing I did for myslef. I learned so much and was much more perpared for all of the ins & outs of surgery/recovery/life afterward. I did get a diff. consult with a PHY. and he approved me with NO problems.  I also had to get a new PCP because I found out my old one DIDN'T send in all of my records/weight loss attempts, etc.He was/is wonderful, compassionate, & very encouraging. Also ,I did take a wt. loss pill he perscribed ( partly so he'd have records of my attempts & to see if i really could lose on my own-not!) It took those 10 months to go thru all of the requirements set down by my Ins. (BCBS) and after that I was called in 9 days with my approval!!!!It did take a few weeks to set up my surgery, and then I waited 6 weeks till MY DAY CAME!!!! Be patient, they are soo busy, they have lots of people wanting surgery, needingadvice, and people who have had surgery that need chekcups, ets. In my instance, there was only one person who handles all of the surgery schedules, and there were a few emergencies that came before me. (The day of my surgery I was scheduled for 11 am. & went in at 4 pm. because of an emergency- so hang in there!) Just remember, everyones story is differant, and every Ins. is too, so your day,time WILL COME! (((hugs))) Ellen
