Afer finishing the 6 month weight loss program dictated to me by my insurance co and starting the program in Sept of 2006 my insurance approved my surgery the last of Feb and last week I got my surgery date for March 20th. I am having the gastric bypass. This is considered the "golden" operation for baratric patients. LapBand is considered experimental and investigational. Finally I'm on my way...Wish me luck. ps. Did anyone have to do the Optifast liquid diet 2 weeks before surgery..this stuff is Nasty! This is a criteria given by the bariatric team.

Hi Debby, Congratulations on your surgery. I hope everything goes well for you. Please double-check your facts on the Lap Band. It has been approved in the US since 2001 and is no longer considered 'experimental and investigational', not even by insurance. There are several of us here who have chosen the Lap Band over bypass for our own personal reasons and several have had wonderful success with it. It really does boil down to what you and your doctor think is best for your specific situation. We are all in this journey together, welcome aboard. Tania

Hi Tania and thanks for the support! I decided on the Rouex n Y first then wanted to check out the LapBand (hubby's insurance doesn't pay for it) but decided my first choice was the better surgery for my needs. I hate the thought of taking the bariatric vitamins for the rest of my life and maybe losing some of my hair. A friend of mine had the Lap Band done 3 weeks ago and she is doing ok...she said that she does feel like she wants more to eat of course she hasn't had it expanded yet either...When I wake up from the surgery I don't want any food for a long time. She said she was munching on popsicles that afternoon! Deb
