New here! Having lap band in April or May

Hi everybody. I'm Andrea, I'm a 27 year old mom of 5 kids from southern Indiana. I am so excited to find this site. I'm having lap band this spring and I haven't talked to anyone who has had this surgery. I just wanted to say hi!

Hello Andrea, Welcome to OH's Indiana board. I hope you get a chance to visit OH's Lapband forum. Lots of banding info there as well as people that are as far out post op as 3+ years and some that have lost 200+ lbs. I had my band August 31 of 2005. So that makes me @ 18 and a half months post op. I've lost over 165 lbs the first year with my band with only 3 fills and not much in the way of post op complications. Thanks for all of the warm welcomes. I'm getting so excited about my surgery reading everyones success stories. I live about 50 miles north of Evansville. I'm having my surgery in Bloomington by Dr. James Bradley Ray. I have to have one more monthly weigh in in April and then get the final okay from my insurance and I'll be good to go. Can anyone tell me how long I should have to wait to get final approval from my insurance company(Anthem)? Thanks, Andrea

Hi Andrea, I am having surgery with Dr. Ray on the 29th of March. It took anthem about 1month to approve me. This was after all the tests, psych eval, dietition... Good luck!! Sherry

sherry, Do you know if Anthem and the hospital ever came to an agreement? Also, after insurance okayed how long before surgery was scheduled?thanks Andrea

I had Lapband 8-7, I am down 59lbs, and I also have Anthem Insurance. It took them less then 1 month to approve me. I have no co-morbities. I guess I was very lucky.... Good luck...best thing I ever done for myself, Lovin' the band Jennifer
