Hello all - I am so happy to be home. Dr. Mandelbaum puts all his patients in ICU or Critical Care Unit the first night after their surgery. I was sent to the 9th floor and thought things were going very well, when I coughed up blood (three times). Dr. M had them take me to ICU, where I spent the the rest of Wednesday, all day Thursday, Friday and part of Saturday. It was reall a precaution on Dr. M's part and one of which I am very thankful. I didn't have any more coughing up blood after I got to the ICU, but then I started passing bloody stools. It was concerning, but as it turns out, it was blood seeping from the staple line. Of course, they had to take me off the blood thinners during that time. At any rate, we could tell the blood was not really from a bleed, and it was getting older and older looking. So, they moved me back to a regular room around 11:00 a.m. yesterday and sent me home today! All things considered, I am doing very well and I'm very excited about what the future holds. Best, Donna
