Hi got home yesterday from the hospital.Had my RNY ON THE 17th.and had some some complications. Ineeded 5 units of blood. I also had a small leak in my pouch. So I canhave nothing by mouth for about a month to geive it time to heal. I also had to come home on TPN. i GET FEEDINGS AT NIGHT FOR 12 HOURS.Sure not what i had expected. and to make matters worse I weigh more than when I wnt into the hospital, because of all the fluids they had to give me.Has any one else had a leak?

Sandy, Im so glad u are home and on the mend. Im sorry to hear about your complications. I know it seems ruff at first but when the wt starts falling off it will all be worth a few extra days in the hospital. I personally didnt have a leak but Im sure there are many others who have and can talk with u about that. I just hope u continue to heal and do well and find that this was a life changing proceedure that will improve your life 100 % ME

I never had a leak but I did swell up from those fluids. Just put the scale away and focus on feeling better!! This will seem like a small bump in the road once the weight starts falling off!! Sam

Sandy, I'm glad you're home & they found the leak. I didn't have a leak, but have perforated (ripped) twice when they did an endo. Since mine were minor tare's each time, I just had to stay at St. V's overnight on an IV and nothing by mouth. Nothing by mouth was NO problem since each time, the perfs were caught from the pain I had after drinking water! Hurts like hell so I do have an idea of what you''ve been going through. Big huggs! It won't be no time that this will have seemed to fly by. Your weight should really start falling off you now! I'm looking forward to hearing your updates! Sherri

Hi Sandy, I had a leak, needed 5 units of blood & had to spend 5 days in the hospital too. However, I did not have a leak in my pouch (they never did figure out where mine was), so I was able to eat when I finally got home. I was terribly weak though and my blood pressure was 89/56 to 94/58 most of the first 3 weeks. Consequently, I couldn't get up and walk around because I was too weak and light headed and my heart rate would flucutate too much. I was almost 6 weeks out before I could start walking or moving around very much. Now I'm almost 7 months out, down about 71 lbs and feeling fine! It will all get better and in a few months you will look back on these first weeks and say "It was worth it!" I don't think it is ever quite what we expected (for better or for worse) because there is no way of truly understanding what this journey will be like for anyone until they live it. Each person is different in many ways and in many others we are the same...it just depends on the combination of the differences and sameness (if that makes any sense). I have been able to identify with many of the issues/concerns that various people have written about on the board, but there are others that I have not personally experienced. Your journey will be unique to you, but so worth any inconveniences or discomforts you may experience in the beginning. Have patience with your healing body and enjoy your journey! Cindy

Sandy, I just saw dr gomez this week for a consultation. I am a unique patient since I had a srvg or what is know as a silastic ring ventral gastroplasty which is when they made a pouch in my stomach and staple a line and place a ring at the end to make the food go in slower and make a small place for the food. Dr gomez will have to do a revision of my pouch and make a smaller pouch then connect a portion of my small intestine as you the ru-n-y is. I am sorry that you have had some complications since your surgery but I am glad your are home. How are you feeling?...How was your care?...When you feel like I would love to hear from you...I know several friends that I work with that have had the surgery and are doing well and loosing great. I wish you well and a speedy recovery so I will be looking forward in hearing from you....Sincerely...Linda

Hi Linda thanks for your response.I am feeling better. Still nothing my mouth It feels like I have cotton mouth. So all I can do is swish and spit the water.I recevied good care aloathough I dont know if I would pick Wishard again. It is a little noisy. They wouldnt let my husband sleep in the waiting room while I was in PIC U sO HE HAD TO GO OUT AND SLEEP IN OUR VAN BECAUSE HE WOULDNT LEAVE ME.When I did get to a private room they let him spend the night. On the other hand that is where Dr.Gomez goes. and I just love Jill.I really trust her to look out for what is best for me.Hope all goes well for you.Sandy
