Baby Dr Appt #4
Well, went to see the baby dr on Thursday. They were running behind, and I actually had to go up to the front desk and ask (after over an hour of waiting) how much longer it would be because I was about to pee my pants! So they took me back, I b\pee in the cup, finish peeing and hand the lady my cup. After she sticks the tester thing in it she says "uh oh." Apparently my ketones were off the charts bad, and i had traces of blood and protein in my urine. They tell me this and THEN want to take my blood pressure (104/64 not bad for just getting a shock like that). She then informs me i'll have to take ANOTHER pee test. Arg! But I dont have anymore pee to give! So the glasses of water started coming to my room. Dr. comes in, is upset about my ketones and asks what I've had to eat that day. I tell her half a banana. She says "Its 2pm and all youve eaten is half a banana?" We just got busy running errands and were going to eat after my appt. She said I need to have snacks every 30 minutes unless I'm getting ready to eat a meal, and that I needed to carry things on me at all times. When I asked what kinds of snacks I should be having, she told me something no dr has ever told me before: "Eat whatever you want. If you want ice cream, have some, if you want a candy bar, have one, if you want chips, eat them" I guess I was in bad ketosis. So i've been trying to make sure I eat and a better interval. Then we listened to the heartbeat, which almsot made me cry, and then we scheduled the next appt and the BIG ultrasound where we find out what we're having, which will be on Nov. 3rd. Only 20 days- I can't wait!
Darrrah,
I could have waited to hear Nov. 3rd referred to as 'only' 20 more days! That's when I'm having my other foot surgery. So girl, you better ask Donna or Dawn to give me a call & let me know what you're having! I'll be out of it the 3rd, but will want to know on the 4th!! I won't be able to get out of bed, but CAN have a phone call. So please...Donna or Dawn....Call me & let me know...k??
It's funny. So many people think ketosis is a good thing. They think they aren't actually losing weight unless they are in ketosis. They don't understand how completely wrong they are and how dangerous it can be. Because of the WLS though...I would still avoid ice cream & candy bars! Hopefully you have found a protein bar you like. Sometimes at Kroger's you can buy one at a time (instead of a box of a dozen) in their health food section. I did that and tried several kinds. Carry them or cheese sticks or pb & crackers in your pocket. Any of those would have protein without having the sugars you don't need. All except the cheese sticks would also have some carbs...which is what your body lacks if/when you go into ketosis. Since I'm hypoglycemic, it can be difficult for me to get the carbs in too. And yeah, carbs turn into sugars...but make your body work to do it.
And sweetie....3 meals a day, EVERY day! That goes for non-preggie post-ops as well. Get into that good habit. You have heard I'm sure that breakfast is the most important meal of the day...not quite true....breakfast, lunch and dinner are the 3 most important ones! Even if it is a couple of cheese sticks, eat something. I b*tch at Bill about this too. I just got through telling him last night that he needed to have breakfast every day (he'll eat the other 2) so I suggested he try one of my Achiev Ones to drink since he doesn't want to 'eat' anything then. And Bill isn't post-op. It's just a good thing for everyone.

Nov 3rd?? thats my birthday!! Ill remember your BIG appointment and get to find out what you're having!! Yea!!
She said eat what ever you want but I suggest you carry protien bars in your purse, and forget the icecream and chips... a glass of milk is good and you can carry good things in your purse.. you are doing so good I would rather you be healthy...

I've been muching on stuff like crackers and granola and the like. Just because i was told i COULD eat whatever I want, doesn't mean I will, or that those things are even what I want. Baby has me lactose intollerant now, on just about everything except cheese, so I wouldn't touch ice cream with a 9 foot pole. I've always eaten a low sugar granola bar if i felt like a candy bar, which I was never a big fan of anyway. I've never been a big sweets person. I also put a bag of sugar free animal crackers in my purse in case i get stuck out doing errands again. The only thing I've noticed myself craving is something I normally just don't eat: salt. So I put a little on popcorn, or i love salt on boiled turnips. Thinking about making my veggie soup that has some in there. I've just never been a fan of salt so a little goes a long way for me. I haven't really done too bad with the whole pregoo eating thing. I think the only things I've eaten that werent reccomended by the nutritionalist (keep in mind my reccomendations are different than normal right now) is I've had half a pop tart, half a piece of bread, and about 5 doritos. Then yesterday my hubby brings me home a pumpkin blizzard from DQ cuase he knows i used to love them. One bite and I almost blew chunks! They dont taste good anymore. I think I was in ketosis mostly because of how sick I had been, and I really wasn't eating very much back then, because it all just came up again. The sickies are fading away though, and everyday I find it a little easier to eat. It reminds me of when I was first post op. I just didnt' want to eat: at all. Had to make myself.
