Good Morning everyone..I was just wondering if someone out therre can help me..I am the type of person who if you have to take any kind of medicine it is 50 questions. What will it do to me, how will I react to it, is it going to be too much or too little? So here is my question, when I go in for Lasik surgery on the 13th, they told me that I would be given 1-2, 5-10 mg of valium. It makes me nervous s to take meds so can someone help me out and tell me what they have experienced with that dosage? Is it considered a high dose or low dose? I have talked to my doctors nurse but I still search around and ask everybody. Sorry I sound like a big baby but I am paranoid about taking medicines. (although I do take all of my supplements that I am supposed to since my surgery.) thanks for any advice, thoughts or comments. i love the people on this board!!!! Thanks Dawn 225/156

when i had my cataract surgery they gave me valium, im not sure the dosage. they told me the same 5-10mg. I hardly felt it. it did relax me a bit and i think that is the intention, Im like you i never take meds and If it has the ability to knock me out it WILL. they seemed mild to me and only helped me relax while the procedure was done. i got up within 10 minutes of leaving the OR and walked out of the hospital. No biggie. Good luck on your surgery. Carla

Good Morning Dawn I also had cataract surgery on both eyes this year and they did the same thing to me thru an IV. I have also had surgical procedures on my back on several occassions and there they prescribe 3 valium pills one hour before the procedure. It does relax you and I also believe that in both procedures it keeps you from nervous wiggling around on the procedure table. You have to lie very still and for me that is very difficult. Everytime I have had valium used I had no after effects and was able to walk out on my own. Driving though is a no no as well as alcohol. Best wishes with your surgery. Dan

Good morning everyone! Well...technically, it IS still morning! LOL! What a morning it has been. To start with, I woke up an hour late. My foot was hurting and I was SO sleepy, so I decided to cat-nap another 20 minutes in the tanning bed...to which, I fell asleep (it kicks off after 20 minutes, so no, I'm not burnt). I took my shower and decided to go ahead and get the blood drawn that Dr. Gupta ordered yesterday (all 11 tubes!). My foot hurt so much walking into the building, while I was waiting, and then the walk back out to my truck, that I got in it and came back home. I called my boss and took the day off. I knew if it hurt that much walking .2 miles into the blood center that the 1/2 mile to get to my desk would be too much for me. So....I called my boss, took Loratab, iced my foot for an hour, and now sitting here with the boot on it. It actually feels better right this minute than it has in a few weeks. When I've been walking without the boot, I think I've been turning my foot outward to take the pressure off the ball of the foot...where the surgery was...so that part wouldn't hurt as bad. Unfortunately, that has caused some major pain to start up with the top part of my foot from it being twisted the wrong way. The boot keeps the foot straight. Other than when I'm behind the wheel, I think I'm going to extend wearing the boot for awhile to break that bad habit I was forming. You all have a terrific day! Sherri
