Topic: Which Hospital to Get RNY Done?
Hi guys, I'm new to the site. Still in the thinking stages of getting RNY done. I don't know which hospital/doctor to choose. I live near Greenwood, so I've thought about going to St. Francis. I have also considered going to IU-Clarian or St. Vincent. Would love to hear some personal experiences or thoughts on any of these hospitals and the programs they offer.
Thanks so much!

Topic: RE: Use to be a spectator now I'm part of the team
Hello. I spend most of my time in the cosmetic surgery board but wanted to stop by the Indiana board. At my heighest I was 405, started my bariatric journey at 374. I ahve been banded since March 2009 and now weigh 219. I actually got to 197 and lost myself and gained. Being that I am self pay I have set my cosmetic surgery date in order to kick my butt in gear.

I have attempted WLS since 2005....and always ran into road blocks. Finally this year I decided I wasnt going to take no for an answer. I have insurance that will cover it. I went to my seminar at IU Bariatrics and met with Dr. Choi. I am now on the 6 months supervised weight loss program. I am not required to lose any weight, but they encourage you to use the liver reduction diet to reduce the size of your liver and make the stomach more visible. I am confident this is my time. Dr Choi says we are looking at the 1st of the year for surgery....what jumpstart on the good old New Years resoloution that will be. Anyway, I am trying to get my bearings on this site. For so long I have sat back and just looked around. Its time for me to participate. If anyone has any suggestions on where to start to become more involved please feel free to let me know.

I totally understand where you are coming from. From the time of my decision after reading, talking to people and attending Bariatric seminars it took 8 months til my Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Surgery on July, 27, 2011 at Johnson County Memorial Hospital with Dr. Dana Lindsay.
I had Type 2 Diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, PCOS, hypothyroidism, urinary incontinence, varicose veins, osteoarthritis in my right knee, fluid retention, aches and pain just being obese everyday.
AFTER SURGERY--I am NOT hungry! right now I am on 2 ounces of liquids per hour until I see the dr on Thursday.
I didn't have any problems with the RNY surgery except the dr found a hernia under my C-section scar that I didn't know I had--she had to remove some fat from around that.
It was all worth it and would do it again.
Hope this helps and wish you a great journey to health.

I was also on a high protein diet prior to surgery bc of Type 2 diabetes, my dr wanted me on 60-80 grams of protein a day (so I had whey protein powder in water--find the low sugar less than 1 gram of carbs-for breakfast and sometimes dinner).
I also ate a lot of tuna salad with low-fat mayo, baked chicken and baked fish with spinach and broccoli.
I can't do a lot of dairy due to having my gallbladder removed in December and being lactose intolerant. Plus, I was staying away from carbs to keep my blood sugars good (my A1C was 5.9%).
It seems hard and I did go to bed hungry but I just kept thinking every night that it over and I was one day closer to surgery.
Good luck and hang in there--it will all be worth it soon.

I live close to Bloomington and will also check out this support group. I know that Dr. Ray's office only does the Lapband and they said they did not know of any support group.
