Topic: RE: Feed back on St. Vincent, Carmel, IN
I only talked with Dr Diaz at initial consult and before surgery. However, by then I felt I was very informed at the all day surgery/nutritional class and didn't have any other questions. The surgeons office is always available by email/phone for any questions you may have. They called me at home after receiving insurance approval in Jan to schedule the surgery date which is generally a month in advance. In the interim is when I had preop tests and the surgery/ nutritional class scheduled. If you already have the preop tests date scheduled then there should already be an actual surgery date scheduled?

Another question...
Did you get your surgery scheduled the day of your pre-op exam or did that that happen later?
TANX!!!!

Thanks for the info. If I had it my way I would have my surgery on my birthday with is Oct 14th. Sounds kinda symbolic to me. My pre-op tests are on the 22nd so I think that is doable depending on their general schedule.
I had a great experience with Dr. Gomez on my WLM. However, a couple of the staff seem a bit put off at times. My meeting with Dr. Caccuci was nice.
Did you get any face-to-face time during your pre-op exam with Dr. Diaz? I have a list of questions I want to cover with my Dr. and don't want that to be the day of the surgery.

I live in IL as well and my insurance required a COE to have surgery. I went to St V in Feb 2 for preop tests etc and had surgery Feb 28. Could have done it sooner but needed more time for my convenience. Dr Diaz was my surgeon as well, though there are several available. My stay at surgery was quite nice. They are all private rooms in bariatric ward so no one else is in there unless to see you. Staff was very caring and helpful to keep you comfortable. Quite responsive to my requests. Their shop can set you up with a starter supply of vitamins supplements to purchase before you leave and reorder online (no shipping fee)! Check out "mybrandnewlife.org" for their website.
Good luck on your journey!

It took me two months to get everything done and I got my date for surgery.

I know the feeling. I have to go to a COE for insurance purposes but my working with St.Vincent has been outstanding so far. It is a 2.5 hour drive but I don't regret my selection compared to places in Illinois I can go.

Thanks for your reply. Do you remember how long after you finished your pre-op exam it took to get your surgery?

I can't go to St Vincent, thanks to my damn insurance, I have to go to Michigan!
But I can tell you that I am very impressed by and grateful to St V for the support groups they run statewide, at no cost to attend.

St. Vincent is a great hospital to have surgery at. I had my surgery on
May 12, 2010, I had the roux-en-y done Dr. David Daiz did my surgery. It was the best thing I could do for myself and my start weight was 410 pounds and now I weigh 235 pounds and I have 65 pounds to lose and be at goal weight 170 pounds. I thank Dr. Diaz for giving me my life back and I can do alot of things now that i could not do at 410 pounds.
