Has anyone went to Community Hospital for their Bariatric surgery or know someone?
I had my gastric sleeve done at St. Francis. Dr. Mandelbaum did my surgery, 4 years 4 months ago. I live in Morgan County. I lost almost 40 lbs prior to surgery and went in to surgery weighing in at 225. I recovered well from surgery and then lost another 65 lbs. Very happy. Dr. Olsen told me to NOT lose any more. Amy told be to start to eat bread and nuts again. It's like that started the floodgates! Fast forward to today. I weigh in at 225 lbs! I have had some health issues along the way which caused me a great deal of stress, but really just an excuse to start eating what I want again. I still have restriction, but find it is quite possible to eat around my sleeve. I stopped logging my food which was my biggest mistake! Today I returned to OH to try to find a supportive environment. I am 57 years old and very willing to connect for the purpose of support. I am married, almost 38 years and have 3 children and 6 grandchildren. 3 weeks ago I had my gallbladder removed by Dr. Mandelbaum. I felt like a failure when he saw me and my weight gain. I see that your post was from 2015. I haven't really looked at your profile, I was just so excited to see someone else from Indy Southside seeking to connect. Not even sure if you are still active on OH. I will send you a friend request and see what happens. Hope you get this message....
Nope and no idea if/when I will. Still trying to get information on that from the head of the Bariatrics program at St. Vincent Carmel. He hasn't returned any phone calls.
In the meantime, I signed up for an online support group so I can attend two per month instead of one. I also joined a walking club and will be purchasing a membership at my local YMCA to use the pool, weight room and take water aerobics classes.
I am tentatively planning to attend the cooking class at St. Vincent's Carmel when it comes up next (it's quarterly).
I see my therapist every two weeks for mental health counseling.
I truly don't understand what else I can do to satisfy the Bariatric Center so they will move ahead and schedule my surgery.
There is a bariatric support group for patients of St. Vincent's in Indianapolis that meets in Fort Wayne - Concordia Seminary 6pm on the second Tuesday of every month. This group is for pre and post ops. I can't remember the name of the building that the meeting is held.
You could go online to St. Vincents, Carmel, Indiana and send an email or call the bariatric center.
I attended every month for 3-4 years but have only gone twice a year lately.
Best wishes,
Penny

I had my consultation Oct. 6, 2015. Wait time depends on several things, your insurance requirements, psych eval date, jumping through lots of hoops. I still haven't had my surgery, was put on hold after my psych eval due to not having a support system they felt was adequate.
I am in counseling as well as attending monthly support groups for WLS folks. I recently also signed up for an online webinar that meets monthly just to try to get in more support. I am tentatively planning to drive down to Carmel for a cooking class that meets quarterly.
I don't know what else I can do to please them enough to get my surgery scheduled.
Good luck to you. Where is your consultation and with which Bariatric Surgeon?
