Another step taken...

Well my first step was talking to my PCP and getting the referral to St. V's Bariatric group. I should be hearing from them this week... Today I took another step. I contacted my insurance company (Anthem BCBS Blue Access PPO) and spoke with a wonderfully pleasant woman named Jennifer. I explained I was considering surgery and was wondering about coverage etc. She informed me it is covered but there are some things required to deem it medically necessary. I thought she would read them to me over the phone but instead she said she was printing them off right there and mailing them this afternoon. So I should be receiving that tomorrow or Wednesday. I also contacted my employer concerning time off. I just indicated I might be having surgery and what my options were for time off (I only have about 1 week vacation time.) In July I will be eligible for FML so if I do get approved for surgery, I won't schedule it till then. I would like to only be out two weeks since I am an admin. and sit at a desk most the time. I'm getting close to being a loser hopefully! P.S. Question - How long after surgery before you can drive? P.P.S. Like how I snuck a question in there?

Good Luck Samantha! About your P.S Question - I would have to say it depends on the type of surgery you get and your doctor. I had the lapband and my surgeon gave me the "okay" to drive (short distances) after 48 hrs after leave from the hospital. I've heard some banders say though that they were told at least five days. I've heard some RNY'ers say their doctors told them at least a week if not at least @ 9 days. But I'm sure some of the other that have had RNY can answer better for themselves.

I was told as soon as I wasn't taking pain meds I could drive. My surgery was awesome tho- I never took the liquid lortab- the whole bottle is still in my fridge. Definatly take the pain meds if you need them. I had surgery on a wednesday, and I think the last pain meds I took were Thursday around 7pm.
