It really depends on where you have surgery and who your surgeon is, but mostly the first month after surgery is a "modified liquid" diet. You can see the sheet we use at ST V- Carmel at this link in pdf form, all the sheets are there from post op- goal. http://www.wlsindy.com/planphases.htm

You will sip sip sip... mostly milk with some protien additives.. you will get a yellow sheet if you go to st V and I am sure where ever else you go you will get a sheet... The first 6 weeks I drank milk and ate string cheese.. got to get the protien in!!! They wont just do the surgery and leave you guessing... I promise... If you go somewhere weird that does leave you guessing then find a support group somewhere... they will lead you on the straight and narrow. Linda

When you attend the required pre-op education class on nutrition-they go over the amounts and what you will be able to eat. At first you will be on soft foods only-your pouch will be brand new and very much like an ifants tummy-you will eat 1-2 ounces per meal generally 3 times a day-with as much water in between as you can get in-your tummy will be small and to avoid disrupting your staple line-you will be required to sip. The changes you make will change in your first year-I am at 19 months out and today I am having a tuna salad sandwich on whole wheat toast with tomatoes & lettuce....pretty normal food this far out....just much smaller portions. Hope this helps you. Happy journey RNY 7/28/04 296/147/140
