Buying vitamins, protein, etc.
I like the Equate childrens multi's with iron from Walmart. They are about 1/2 the price as the Flinstones and taste better to me. CVS sometimes run specials on vitamins. I got my B1 (thiamin) there at a buy 1 get one for a penny sale. The Sub-lingual b-12 I got from GNC. Not cheap there but they last a long time with only 1 a week. CVS may also carry those the one near me was out when I got them.
Sherry...Walmart & Meijer is where I've had my luck at finding the best deals. I got my children's chewables at Meijer on special...Meijer brand of coarse 2 bottles of 300 chewables for $12.42 is was a buy one get one free deal...I'm 5 months out and still working on those. As far as protein goes...I found one that I can tolerate at Walmart. I can't remember the brand, but it comes in either vanilla or chocolate and it's $11.97 for a 2 lb canister of it. I mix 1 scoop of protein powder with 8 oz of milk, 1/3 scoop of powered milk, and 1/2 cup of Breyers Low Carb, Sugar Free Vanilla Ice Cream, and mix in the blender...that gives me 38 grams of protein and tastes YUMMY!!! Sometimes I add diet rootbeer for a rootbeer float, and somtimes some instant decaf foldgers coffee crystals for a mocha latte flavor...they are all real tasty!!! I have a real problem with protein shakes...I have to doctor them up in order to drink them!!! Best wishes...I hope you find something you can tolerate!!!~~~Shari
P.S. I found my sub-lingual B-12 Complex at Walgreens for like $8, and my B-1 at Meijer for like $3. And calcuim...I got Caltrate at CVS buy one get one free for like $6...they are the fruit chewables...not too bad!!! I also like the Viactive I think they are called...chewable chocolate/carmel...yummy!!! Just make sure you take your vitamins seperate from your calcuim for the best absorption...like vitamins in the AM & calcuim in the PM!!!
For protein I bought a 4 pack sampler from profect.com (see add at bottom left of this board). That brand appealed to me because you get 25 grams of protein in only 2.7 - 2.9 oz of premixed liquid. The bottles look like giant test tubes. My daughter calls them my "potions". Yes, we are into Harry Potter!
They are a little expensive (averages about $3 per tube), but everything I have read about how much trouble everyone has getting all of their protien and liquids in made the small volume look really good. They come in 4 fruit flavors. I wound up feeding them to my 4 year old daughter because she has been throwing up weekly for about a month (cause as yet unknown) and had lost a full pound. At 35 lbs, that was too much. She liked all but the Melon Spla****asted each one before I gave it to her. They have a mild "koolaid" kind of taste. Not too sweet, not to tart. I think they would be better chilled, but didn't want to stress her stomach. I checked with the dietitian and she said they were fine to use.
Also, I just received my order from bariatricadvantage.com. They have chewable vitamins, iron, and even Calcium Citrate losenges made especially for wls patients. I tried the chewable iron and it really tastes kind of good. It is a very small chewable tablet. Haven't tried the vitamins yet. The prices aren't bad and you get a 25% discount if you buy a 90 day supply. Neither site horks you on shipping.
Good luck.
