Want surgery in IN, but don't live there...
Hi there,
I was scheduled for lap RNY on 3/20 at Brigham & Women's hospital in Boston. I developed cold symptoms the day before, so I was cancelled. Both my family and my dh's family are from Indy, and had flown out to take care of our kids, house, etc... while we were gone for the surgery.
Now that we've had to reschedule, everything is a mess with trying to get people to commit again to help us. What I'd like to do is have the surgery there in mid June.
Researching here was easy because I chose the program associated with Harvard Medical School. In Indy, not so easy because I don't know what's good. It's been 12 years since I lived there. I grew up in the Northern suburbs, so I've always been comfortable with St. V's, but I'm intrigued by the Barix clinics. Can anyone tell me their experiences with Barix. It looks like most people have been pretty happy with St. V's. Thanks for any info.
Ditto on the opinion of St. Vincent in Carmel. You won't get better care anywhere else in my humble opinion. My Dr. is Evanson, he is in with Dr. Inman. I've never heard a discourging word about either of them. I work in a lab and have talked to patients that had been done in the past at Barix. The only complaints I have heard from them is that they never see the same Dr. when they go for check ups. These are people that have had surgery two or three years ago now and things may have changed. I don't think you can go wrong with St. Vincent. They have a very comprehensive after care program. Your care and support do not end when you leave the hospital. Question is would you be able to make it back for 1 month,3 month and 6 month Dr. visits??
Laura,
I'm also one of the ones who sing their praises to St. V in Carmel. It is just fantastic. They have a bariatric wing and everything is PERFECT for the obese/morbid obese. Their staff is fantastic. I honestly have not one negative thing to say about the bariatric care at St. Vincent's. I had Dr. Christine Gupta, who is one of the 3 surgeons at her office. There is also Dr. Rose Jones and Dr. Brenda Cacucci. I can't say enough about these 3 ladies.
Many people pretty much get stuck with whatever hospital and/or surgeon that their insurance will approve. That isn't the case with me. I have an insurance that I could have chose to go to whichever surgeon/hospital that I wanted to go to. I read the comments that people made on here about the local hospitals & surgeons and that is why I chose to go where I did. There is only 1 surgeon at St. V's that I would not recommend and that's because he has the propensity to tell people he'll do their surgery lap and then every time 'something came up' to where he HAD to do open. This has happened with every patient that I have met/talked to/am related to. One or two..yeah. That many? Makes me believe he lacks the ability to do lap and knows that patients would go elsewhere if they knew that he would be doing open ahead of time. If you check surgeons track record on here, that would pretty much tell you who that surgeon is.
Best wishes....
