Confused on where to have surgery:help:
I have been researching the boards and I would like to know if Community South is a good place to have my surgery. Dr. Clark is my doctor but I haven't read too much about this hospital on the boards here. I live in Columbus and thought this would be a better option since it was closer and especially if I have complications. What are the advantages/disadvantages of this hospital? I opted not to have surgery in Columbus since I wasn't real comfortable with the doctors here and this procedure. Thanks!
Well to my knowledge St. Vincent has been doing these surgeries longer than anyone in the state. Dr. Huse founded the Bariatric center and started all that. I felt more comfortable going to St. V's than anywhere else. And that is just because of my experiences with the metro hospitals. I'm not saying my docs are better because I'm sure they are all very good, I just have this in my head that St. V's has done more research on it and has more experience.
Hope this helps.

dr clark is the best dr your gonna get...I had him as did my husband...I went to st francis, and ed used community.....I warned the nurses i to had wls, well, he did not go to the normal floor after surgery he went straight to a room...they do not have obese size bands, they did not bring him his protein drinks, even skipped his meals he was tuckes away in a corner, his IV came out and blood every where the nurse button was ignored and he had to scream....to get any help....I am sorry to say they are not educated on this surgery...and with his stays of late, they still are not..he was ordered 3 protein drinks aday...he got none yesterday...he gets 1 oz of oatmeal and 1 oz of apple juice....thats breakfast....and this was his breakfast before the revision...when he should have had 2 oz of food not cream of chicken soup and pudding, each breakfast is the same, each lunch is the same, each dinner is the same....LMAO damn good thing its not me...I have not filled out the reviews for community south...but dr clark is the dr to have...others may say it was better for them, he was not encouraged to walk....hell he had 2 IV poles and could not do it himself....now at st F i had the neatest male lpn I think he was, older guy...he was awesome he would not come in and ask me...he would tell me what i was gonna do..he would bring me popcyles, protein drink he would cook me an egg, lol.....he was awesome...as were any other health care person i dealt with there, they were there to walk with you and i only had one IV pole, so i was able to pu**** along with me...but i also knew what to expect, and skipping a meal regaurdless of what it is,,,,how small it may be needs to be there, And yeap it has happened since he has been back in again....ALL IN ALL the nurses are great there, they just have not been educated with the care of a wls person in my mind, and could be there were but one of those things if you don't use it you lose it...oh now also they have phones they carry that alarms them to when a nurse button has been pushed....now they have beds for the obese...
so you have the good...the fact that dr clark is the dr, the added therapy,,oh yeah thats another thing i am feeling....like community south is the step child of the community wls...most things appear to be at community north, most of his appointments are at community north,,,and i think only every other month or something is support at community south....all of his appointments with dr clark are at community south but with dr randal they have been north...you asked...I am telling...sorry I did not have something better to report...now with his other things going on south is excellent but their wls program other than the added therapy and knowing you have to pay cash money, for the program...I have always been a fan of community south before it was even community south...and the workers for the program are all great, no problems there...iI just feel the hospital stay was not where it should have been, and the binder still is smaller than what it should be and ed was a light weight so i am not sure how that binder gets around anyone else cos it was to small for him heck it was my size now...maybe they just come in one size....if so they need bigger ones...they had the same size on him with this surgery and he still complained it was to tight this after having gone from a 48 to a 40....same size as when he had the wls...
now with st f the only one thing i had a problem with was when i started having this pain the nurse said to me maybe i had gas...And i was thinking maybe i had never had gas before, so i sent someone to get me some gas x...lol..hey i had no idea, but then i thought why would i call on new years day about gas? i suppose some have...i knew it was like gall bladder pain...which is what i told her...and that had been gone since jan of 77...but i sure rememebered that pain....
I hope someone else has something else better to say and this was just what took place with ed...
WOW! what a load of info. Looks like my only choices are St. Francis Beech Grove or Community South. From the responses I've gotten looks like St. Francis is going to be the one. No need to apoligize for being blunt. I know by posting all my questions here that I will get an honest answer. Thanks to you all who answered. I hope eveyone has a good day! Off to the evaluation with Dr. Randall tomorrow morning!

Dr Clark is a good Dr several people have gone to him.. the only thing that concerns me about Community South is things I h ave read from Angie about ED.. they dont seem to understand Our Surgery post OP needs..
I was spoiled Rotten by St V Carmel because they have a whole floor just for people like us. But I also hear St Francis Is great most have been there with Dr Clark.
