Questions about Anthem

I have been receiving my bills in the mail from surgery and before and my psych consults were denied. I have Anthem State insurance and Anthem is stating Magellan does not cover this coverage. Anyone with state anthem insurance have the same thing happen? Is there any appeal to it? On the by and by, I'm down 65 lbs. since surgery and feeling fantastic!!

great news on the weight loss....i know with united health the mental part of the ins paid for the eval,,,or whatever their part was..

Every bill that we have submitted/received has been denied on the first go around even though I was pre-approved. "Policy does not cover obesity care." I have Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. Every time we (the wife and I) called the customer service number, waited, answered all of their questions, they resubmitted it through their channels and all the claims have been paid to date, minus the deductible. All the preop stuff, the phych stuff, the lab stuff. The main surgery/hospital bills haven't come yet, but I assume we will need to do the same thing with them, too.

I work for Revenue, (STATE) and it paid all my bills execpt the 500.00 admit deductable and my secondary insurance paid that. Great on your weight loss!!! Linda

I have federal BCBS Anthem...and my psych eval was not covered in 2004-I paid $200 out of pocket for those and the pre-surgery education classes were not covered. They have added some of those things as covered items beginning in 2006. My out of pocket totaled around $800-not bad for a $30K surgery

I have Anthem BSBS PPO Blue Access (Small Group Policy) and it paid for all of my surgery except $765.00 of the Dr. Bill/Hospital Bill, about $98.00 of the Anesthia Bill and my entire $150.00 Presurgery Psych Eval Bill. Good luck! Heather
