I am wondering if there are any recommendations for some good protein drinks and other suppliments that are available at local stores, I'd even be willing to travel a little. Since I don't have a credit or debit card I can't buy online, so I am looking for some other solutions as far as buying supplements that will taste good.

None of them taste good I think I had 3 protein drinks since surgery If you find you hate them all...and if you can tolerate milk after surgery....milk is always a good source. That's where I get mine. I have been low in protein twice in 18 months...but I had blood work done last week...and all my levels are normal

I agree.. milk.. you can add sugarfree quick if you need but drink milk and eat string cheese... tastes a whole lot better than the protien drinks Ive tried. Linda

Barb, The biggest problem I have found w/the protein drinks is that after sipping the first 8oz no matter how "okay" (none are great) the flavor is I get so tired of the taste! If we could CHUG them down, I wouldn't care how bad it tasted because it would only last a short time! After 30 mins or so ..YUCK is all I can say! Now, I have to tell you I DO drink my protein every single day! The only day I didn't get all my protein in was my first day home from the hospital. I have tried many different kinds. I finally settled on some vanilla & chocolate from GNC...it is called Pro Performance 100% Whey. They had a great sale on it and the new store on 96th was "re-opening" and were giving away free gold card memberships so I also got an additional 20% off! Anyhow...I found early out that I couldn't tolerate milk. I tried the Lactaid milk and I do just fine. I drink 2 scoops of the Pro performance in 16 oz of Lactaid milk this gives me 56 gms of protein! I sometimes add SF CIB which adds another 4 gms of protein..I get the rest from food. As Linda and Deb have already told you try to consume protein from foods. A 1oz string cheese has 7 gms of protein! Wally world also sells Kraft reduced fat cheddar cheese sticks (individually pkg'd) that have 6 or 7 gms of protein ...Plus, Baby Bel Light (found by the deli not where the other cheese is) that has 7gms Pro per serving. Best Wishes! Lisa D.

Barb, I use the Isopure fruit drink from GNC. If you drink it straight it is awful! It tastes ok at first then it is really dry like someone wiped your mouth out with alcohol! I mix 6oz of the grape flavored with 1oz of unsweetend grape drink with ice in my sippy cup and it is really good! I also recommend the string cheese....I eat 2 per day as part of my meals and I really love them. Good Luck! Marianne

Hi Barb, I have a protien shake every day that I make with Designers Whey Protien Mix, found at Wal-Mart. I get the chocolate, add 8 oz. milk( or soy) 3 ice cubes & 1/2 frozen banana. It adds up to 32 grams of protien plus a fruit, if you add the banana. Also, have you tried the South Beach protien bars? They are 10 grams of protien. I eat the string cheese & seafood as well. I wish you the best. (((hugs))) Ellen

I truly did not think that I'd ever be saying this, but...I am addicted to Protediet from St. Francis Weight Loss Clinic. I've tried Isopure and after getting sick once after drinking one I just can't face those anymore. Which reminds me, Deb I have three bottles for your goodie bags next time I see you at a get together. But, the fruit punch and orange protediet are just like kool-aid and I can't do without mine. I look forward to my 4:00 one when I put some strawberries and pineapple in the smoothie maker along with a fruit punch and have a smootie. YUM Julie R.

The best I have found is Unjury,,and I know it says you have to order online,,but I emailed them and they will take a check or money order. It is in flavors or the unflavored,,i like the unflavored cause you can put it in anything,,mashed potatoes, drinks, oatmeal, pudding etc..you might give it a try. Its 20 grams per scoop.

Barb-- If you can maybe pay someone the money who has a credit or debit card there is a website called bariatriceating.com and it has some grape protein powder availiable for $16.95 under the clearance section and it is 28 g of protein per cup and is sooo good. It taste kinda like grape koolaid and it doesnt leave an after taste in your mouth....i think that the website accepts checks also... good luck! finda nessy
