Does St. V's require its individuals to be on a pre-op diet before surgery? If not, what do they require?

HI Nicki...I had Dr. Huse and wasn't required to go on any special diet EXCEPT the day before surgery. At breakfast you had solid food, at lunch it was smooth food...like yogurt, applesauce etc, and at dinner it was clear liquids...jello, broth etc. That's the only thing I'm aware of for St. V patients...never heard of any other requirements, but perhaps not all the doc's are the same, I'm not real sure! Best wishes...Shari P.S. I know that the more weight you lose prior to surgery it will help shrink your liver so that the surgery is easier to do...just a thought!

I have Dr. Caccuci and it is the same for me. I went ahead and put MYSELF on a pre op diet, just to be shrinking my liver and to make sure I have no chanceof afixiation due to my carelessness. PLus, its that much less weight I'll have to lose after surgery! Bring on the size 14s!

Hi, Nicki! I had my surgery at St. Vincents, too. Dr. Evanson did not require any pre-op diet other then the day before. As far as I know, they don't require one. Best of luck!!
