Hi Cimberly...I've heard that several doc's won't even operate on a patient if they haven't quit smoking, because smoking slows down the healing process!!! Don't know anything about how strict the center you are going to will be, best wishes!!! I use to smoke, and it's definitely not the easiest thing to do in the world, but it's like weight loss...if you want it bad enough you'll do what it takes!!! I've been smoke free for 2 years, and I have felt so much better, between the NOT smoking and RNY!!! I wish you the best, and hope everything works out for you!!! Good Luck!!! Shari

I had the same problem Angie. I quit for 2 months prior to surgery and then 2 weeks out I started again. I am going to go back on the patches and also the Quit Smart program. I have to get rid of this nasty habit. The problem is that I enjoy them even it though it makes absolutely no sense at all. Dr Cacucci jumps my butt everytime I see her. Dan

I don't know about Clarion, but St. Vincent will test you and if it shows up, they will cancel the surgery. I had quit smoking July 19th, 2004...2 months prior to surgery. Best thing I ever did! Now I have the $$ to spend on clothes instead. Sherri
