Need to have Hernia surgery
I just had my six month check up and found out I have an incesional hernia. They are scheduling surgery. Don't have a date yet. I am curious on what I should expect for the surgery and recovery time. I do a lot of volunteering and I am also in college and I am wondering how it is going to affect me.

Cami,
I had to have mine in September. They do it lap...and in the same incisions as for your RNY when they can. Mine was done out-patient. I think I was off work for 2 weeks.
I am assuming you did have pain in order for them to check you for the hernia....? For me, the longer it went on, the worse the pain got. A CT scan wouldn't pick it up because it has to be 'pinched' at the very moment they take the scan or it won't show. Turned out, I had 2 hernia's and a blockage. I have been pain free every since!
Besst of luck!

Hi Cami...I feel for ya on the hernia situation!!! I had 3 hernias repaired at the time of my RNY on Oct 31, 2005...I felt like I had been hit by a mack truck, and I'm VERY pain tolerant!! Dr. Huse said hernia surgeries are one of the most painful surgeries to have!!! I'm only 3 months out and have yet another hernia, but unless it is painful Dr. Huse says we'll wait until I've lost all my weight and do the hernia surgery when plastic surgery is done!!! Best Wishes to you...and hold off if you can until you need plastic surgery if you do, because some insurances won't cover PS, but if other problems are present like a hernia they might cover it in that instant!!! I wish you the best, and hope you have a great surgeon!!! Best wishes...Shari
