HEY EVERYONE,
I have a question about the vitamins, please help! I have spent so much money on things I either can't take or don't like. Any suggestions on a multi-vitamin hopefully not chewable and possibly small. I am currently taking flintstones but they are too sweet for me and nasty. I also bought some from wal-mart and even after breaking them in half they didn't go down very well. I am currently having some pain, went to family doctor yesterday, she has ordered my 3 month blood work and says she thinks I have a deficiency going on. She asked me about my electrolytes as well as mentioned possible potassium deficiency, this has me a little worried. Any knowledge on the symptoms of these or input on the vitamins would be great.
THANKS DAWN IN INDY
Hey Dawn.....I use Flintstones...took me a while..but I love them now. Linda takes a liquid kind...not sure what it is. You can get extra potassium from a banana a day if you want to get it naturally. Or drink Pediolyte (It's like Gatorade.....just no sugar..but check and make sure it doesn't have the stuff used in Equal-Asparmetine or whatever it is...that stuffs deadly).
Not quite sure how your PCP could tell ya have deficiency in electrolytes-they control things like your heart and other organs...not sure what the 'outside' signs would be. Electrolytes are Sodium, Potassium and Calcium, etc.
For your vitamin....make sure you choose something that can dissolve in a few ounces of warm (not hot)water in less than 5 minutes. Otherwise you won't get any benefit. It will just go through you
Hope this helps ya!!!
Dawn,
I've tried some other vitamins out besides the Flintstones. They had gotten too sweet for me too. I have trouble with pills (just since WLS) so I tried a powder that you diluted in water. It tasted awful. It wasn't convenient and so half the time I forgot to drink it. Next I tried Centrum chewable. These may be a good solution for you. They aren't super sweet. For myself though, I'm going back to kids chewables. They are easily portable and less expensive. Last night at Kroger, I found calcium citrite chewables (Kroger brand) so I'm switching from OsCal to these.
I haven't been deficient so far in any of my vitamins so I don't have a clue as to what it feels like to be low in something. What kind of pain are you having? If it is in your tummy, you may want to loop your surgeon in on it. I think I would regardless of where the pain is...especially if a vitamin deficiency is suspected.

You are pretty new out.. I would try the gnc liquid in a cranberry base..
I NOW take CVS pills and break them in half.. Dr C uas worried about them coming out whole said pills were a last resort to us. but I took a vitamin and put it in an ounce of water and it was dissolved within 5 minutes.. I called Dr C and told her!! I am taking them... Most vitamins if you read say dissolved within 30 minute test... I know one a day coated comes out whole Keep to the CVS uncoated
I am going to CVS and do some stocking up on the ones with IRON.. Dummy me has been taking the non iron ones.. we need iron!!
Linda
I take the cvs brand regular multi vitimans. i cant stand the chewable ones either. make me sick.. like you they are much too sweet for me. the cvs multivitimans are small and i take 3 a day. its better than nothing, the nutritionist says we dont absorb all of them so 3 a day should help a little. A lady at our support group told me about them, she had the same problem and she is 2 years out and has been taking the cvs regular vits. all along and hasnt had a deficiency. Good Luck, Carla
