I went to a Post-Op "Newbie" class Thurs. & they stressed NOT taking them together. I now do my multi at breakfast, & my calcuim at lunch,& one at dinner.( That is how I am trying to overcome my CRS Linda.) I didn't realize they could mess up in your system if you don't. Have a great day, (((hugs))) Ellen

I remember being told at a support group when I was 1 yr post op that you should not take your multi vitamins with your calcium. The dietician said it is like just throwing them in the trash. I CRS either. But what I do remember the reason was that your body can only absorb so much at one time. I was glad I found out then, I had been taking them at the same time for a whole year. That's why it pays to go to support groups even periodically.

Hello I was also told along with taking your calcium and multi separate that calcium carbonate (which is most of the calcium out there like viactive) absorbs better into your system with a meal. Dr. Inman told me that. However calcium citrate is absorbed the best by our bodies. Micah

Linda, Since you are also on synthroid, as per my endocrinologist, take your synthroid as soon as you get up on an empty stomach with liquids. Don't eat for an hour afterwards (but you can drink). At least 4 hours later, take the vitamins..then wait at least 4 more hours for the calcium. Vitamins and food can both keep the synthroid from working correctly as well as the calcium and vitamins can prevent each other from working. Sherri

Thanks Sherri for mentioning that about the synthroid, I had no clue either!!! I take my synthroid with my carafate (for ulcers), but wait until afternoon to take my multivitamins. You think that is ok??? Thanks for the info!!! Have a great day!!! ~~~Shari

Shari, When I had my ulcers, I think I took the first (of 4) doses at the same time as my synthroid too. It can get tricky getting all those doses in an hour before eating anything...and then don't drink for 30 minutes before/after eating. Between scheduling our meds/vitamins, water, protein, food, exercise....we all should get a PHD in time management! LOL! Sherri
