Larry Butler
I do not know if any of you happened to see Larry at St Vincents, but I just got this information from another site.
Larry Butler had surgery at St Vincents I believe on Dec 20th. Larry passed away from the complication of his surgery this past Sunday eve. He was on meds to keep his blood pressure down plus his kidneys were failing. Everytime he was taken off the blood pressure medicine, it would skyrocket. The doctors finally decided he needed to come off the BP med about 3:30 and he passed away at about 5.
This is from yesterdays Indianapolis Star
Larry D. Butler 57, Pendleton, IN died on Sun., Jan. 15, 2006. Services: 10 a.m., Thurs., Jan. 19, at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel, Anderson, with calling there, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m, on Wed. Burial: Grovelawn Cenietery, Pendleton.
So sorry to hear about the loss of a WLS family member...we are all family here in a sense and when one of our own passes then we all feel it. We all took a risk knowing that their could be complications and we chose the chance for a better life and a chance to live.
My prayers are with Larry's family and I truely hope that they understand why he took the risk for a better life. I remember when I was 296 (and higher) I was not living...I was existing. I am sure Larry felt the same way
I did not take a basket to Larry...but I do believe I saw him on a few of my trips to St V's. Now I wish i would have stopped to visit him...just to let him know people care...along with his friends & family.
ahhhh crap...how sad....i just hate to hear about this....do you know how big he was? what other health issues he had? my word, eds blood pressure went sky high after surgery as well...seems to me....if his blood pressure was high he would need some meds....prayers for his family...a neighbor told me today his brother in law passed away cos he never had the surgery he was 500 pounds or so he had said....we know going in this risk...
Dan,
My heart goes out to his family. To have the surgery to save your life, only to pass away is so sad.
The Surgery is a big risk, with big benefits & complications. We all go thru the "what if's".I hope His family will find peace in His decision to try to save & restore His life.May the Lord give them comfort.
They have my prayers.
(((hugs)))
Ellen
So Sad but glad you let us know... Sometimes we NEED to hear about the ones who didn't make it... this surgery saved OUR lives but sometimes our bodies are in more trouble than we think..
Newbies NEED to know about the risks we took to get this happy and our journey.
Anita had her best friend pass away right before my surgery... Anita was worried sick about me and it has made her journey to surgery come to a standstill. That and the insurance companies... attitude about parting with any of their money..

I visited the Bariatric Floor the day after his surgery and the nurses asked us to talk with him.
He really was a nice guy and eager to get on with things. I hated to hear how things went and tried to meet with his family after they placed him in a medically induced coma--unfortunately, I was never able to.
He was a big guy, but I don't know his exact weight. He was close to sixty and mentioned that he did know things were risky.
It is very sad. This is the second person I've known that has died after surgery. That's one of the reasons I think surgery is a matter of last resort. Bad things can happen. I know personally, although my end result was much better.
Again, all the best to his family,
Eric C.
Thanks Eric for the input. I know the folks were very concerned here. You are right, this is a matter of last resort. But again there is always risk in any type of surgery. My niece died in December just two days after having a tummy tuck. She died in her sleep from a blood clot.
You have really been an inspiration to me. If there is a male role model, man you are it - like it or not. (lol).
Best Wishes
Dan
