Hello! My name is Elizabeth and I am starting my journey...I went to a seminar the other night in Fort Wayne and was very impressed with the center and Dr. Sloan...However, I spoke to the insurance woman there and she informed me that yes they take HIP but they only take on 4 patients a year with it. --Of course there is a waiting list for next year.

I have decided to attend another seminar in Carmel with Dr. Evanson in one week. I am excited but nervous...Is it crazy to think of doing the surgery 2 hours away from my home? How often will I need to make the trip? What about support groups? Will I find a local one? Would love opinions also on Dr. Evanson and his team.

One more question...my BMI is 38. I have terrible back pain, anxiety, and my parents have an extensive history of problems related to weight. Other than that my blood pressure is fine, my cholesteral is borderline and I am not diabetic. With they still aprrove me? What are they looking for when they look at symptoms to qualify?

I know I asked a lot but would appreciate ANY advice on anything I asked about. Thank you in advance!

My surgeon was Dr Sloan. So I'm not sure about the doctor you are going to see.
When you schedule an appointment with the new surgeon they will make sure you qualify. Do you have gerd? Sleep apnea? Those are also health conditions that they consider. It also depends on your insurance. I'd call your insurance to find out what they want exactly.

Elizabeth, I had my surgery 2 weeks ago with Evanson and cannot stop being so impressed with him. He actually treats you as a person and not as a some fat person. He truly cares about his patients and makes sure you understand everything. I had 2 people that were in my preop class with me that were from 3 hours away so I dont think younare crazy on that part, most cities now have wls support groups I'm sure you could attend one of those, depending on what your insurance requires will depend on how many times you will need to come down to Carmel. Let us know how things go.
